Story of Vaishali

• Vaishali’s father was a vegetable seller.

• Her whole family helped her father every day.

• Her family used to wake up at 3’o clock every day to get her father, elder brother, and uncle ready for the mandi.

• They keep aside the previous day’s vegetables and clean the gunny bags.

• Then her father, uncle, and elder brother leave for the mandi for the fresh vegetables.

• While her father is at the mandi, Vaishali and her mother prepare the previous day’s vegetables, by sprinkling water on them to keep them fresh.

• Sprinkling water on the vegetables keeps them hydrated and fresh for a longer time.

• As her father returns with fresh vegetables everyone helps her father to get ready to go to the market.

• Her father leaves early to reach his daily customers on time.

• Her father always tries to sell the old vegetable stock first then the fresh ones.

• He tries to sell the old vegetable first because they would not stay fresh for a longer period.

• Especially on summer days her father used to sprinkle water on the vegetables on a regular period so that they don’t dry up. 

Vegetables

• Vegetables are plant parts that are eaten by humans and other animals.

• Broadly vegetables are of Four types:

1. Leafy Green

2. Roots

3. Nightshades

4. Edible plant stem

• Leafy Green: Plant leaves, sometimes with tender petioles and shoots, are eaten as a vegetable known as leafy green vegetables. Examples: kale, broccoli, spinach, cabbage.

• Roots: Humans eat the underground plant parts known as root vegetables. Example: Beets, Parsnips, Turnips, Rutabagas, Carrots.

• Nightshades: Tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, and peppers are all members of the nightshade family of plants.

• Edible Plant Stem: Plant stems are one of the parts of plants that humans eat. Stems, roots, leaves, flowers, and fruits containing seeds make up the majority of plants.
