Summary of Defence Officer: Wahida
The Indian Navy is the Indian Armed Forces' naval branch.
The Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy is the President of India.
One can join the Indian Navy after completing 10+2 and meeting the necessary physical requirements.
Both males and females can join the Naval forces.
This story tells us about Wahida Prism, a Lieutenant Commander in the Indian Navy.
She was one of the few women who had worked on a naval ship.
She is the first female parade marshal.
Even though she was from a small village, she always wanted to be someone special in life.
She was unusual from a young age.
She enjoyed riding her motorcycle.
She has an M.B.B.S degree and joined the Indian Navy as a medical officer.
Her family always supported her throughout her journey.
Introduction
Wahida belongs to a small village called Thannamandi. This is in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
She completed her schooling at a government school.
She wanted to do something special and become someone in her life.
She was very eager to pursue higher studies and completed the 10th class, which was very new in her area at that time.
At that time the society did not accept the girl child to study higher, that’s why her family faced many problems as a result they had to leave the village
They moved to her grandmother’s house in Rajouri.
How Wahida became a doctor and joined the Navy?
Even from a young age, she wanted to do something different.
She was very fond of riding a motorcycle.
While in school, she attended camps and climbed mountains.
She was called the ‘Girl Guide.’
They were three sisters and her father wanted one to become a doctor, one to be a teacher, and one to join the police force.
She worked very hard and completed her M.B.B.S from Jammu Medical College.
She used to see officers in her village and it became her dream to join the Defence Forces one day.
After becoming a doctor, she was interviewed to be a doctor in the Navy and was selected.
Every Naval ship has a ‘First Aid’, one doctor, and two or three assistants.
Leading the Parade
Wahida Prism became the first Indian woman to lead the parade.
In the parade, the leader stays in the front and four platoons march behind the leader.
In total, 36 commands have to be given during the parade.
The commander should have such a voice so it reaches the far end of the crowd and also to the other side of the ground.
Wahida practiced every morning and evening for a month to prepare for the parade.
The Meaning behind the name Wahida Prism
Prism is the name given to Wahida by her father.
It means a kind of glass that reflects all the seven colors in nature.
Her father wanted her to be like a prism and so he named her after that.
