  • This chapter is about how two best friends Omana and Radha were excited about their train journey to Kerala.

  • Omana was planning to visit her grandmother with her family while Radha was supposed to go on a trip with her family.

  • Due to an unexpected accident with Radha, her family cancelled the trip since she fractured her right leg and she should not move for six months.

  • The two best friends were disappointed about the situation since they had a lot of plans for the upcoming trip.

  • Suddenly Radha’s mother had a great idea. She asked Omana to write a diary during the journey about each and every experience she is about to encounter. So, in this way, Radha can read the diary once Omana returns and she will not miss the train trip.

  • As Omana promised to Radha, she wrote about each and every little experience she encountered during the train journey.

  • Omana and Radha were best friends and they were excited about their train journey to Kerala with their families.

  • Omana was planning to visit her grandmother while Radha was supposed to go on a trip.

  • Due to an unforeseen accident with Radha, her family cancelled the trip since she fractured her right leg and she should not move for six months.

Omana’s Diary – 16th May

  • Omana and her family reached the railway station and were about to board the train. They checked the reservation chart and their names were present.

  • The coach was almost full. The train started from Gandhidham, Kutch, Gujarat.

  • After a great struggle among the passengers with the luggage, they managed to get their seats and sat.

  • After some time, the ticket collector came and checked their tickets and confirmed whether they were sitting in the right place.

  • Amma and Appa were confirmed with a lower berth and unni and Omana got the middle berth. The upper berth was taken by two college students. Side berths were occupied by a family with two children.

  • Now Omana sat near a window seat and started to write about the journey for Radha to read.

  • It was time for eating lunch and Omana’s Amma opened the lunch box which had dhokla with chutney, lemon rice, and a few mithai.

Omana’s Diary – 16th May (After lunch)

  • After lunch, most of them slept but Omana did not sleep and was watching the fields outside which were dry and brown in color.

  • The train seemed to run fast at one point in time and the things outside seemed to run in the opposite direction.

  • At last, the train reached Ahmedabad where the sun began to set and the sky was orange in color.

  • They just passed through the Valsad station. Even though the train halted for only two minutes, there was a great deal of noise.

  • "Chai! garam, chai!" exclaimed one man, "batata vada! batata vada!" exclaimed another, doodh-Thanda-doodh! puri-shaak!". Omana bought some bananas and chikoos.
