The Scholar’s Mother Tongue Revision Notes NCERT Class 4 English

  • The chapter is about a renowned scholar who was fluent in all languages.

  • He paid a visit to Akbar's court one day. He challenged all the courtiers in Akbar's court to tell him his mother tongue.

  • None in the court could tell his mother tongue as he was very fluent in speaking all languages.

  • Birbal then accepted the challenge. Birbal crept into the scholar's sleeping quarters late at night.

  • Birbal tickled his ear, and the scholar, who was fast asleep, yelled something in Telugu that flowed out his mouth like a mother tongue.

  • The following day, Birbal says that the scholar's mother tongue was Telugu, to which the scholar agrees.

Birbal knew that The Scholar will be vulnerable when he was sleeping. Irritated and half asleep, he uttered a few words in annoyance. Birbal got hold of the secret language the pundit uses as mother tongue.
