Important Things to Know about NEET UG Chemistry Portion

The main part of preparation is where and how to start. The basic tip of getting the NEET UG pattern with weightage for Chemistry is getting to know the question paper. Once you know about the syllabus and its topic-wise discussions on where to put extra attention and which parts you can skip if you run out of time, cracking the examination will be much easier.

The examination will be for 2 hours, with questions divided into two sections. The Chemistry portion of NEET UG is 180 marks out of 720. Here is all you need to know about the Chemistry question pattern of NEET UG.

Question Pattern and Important Features of Chemistry in NEET UG

As the Biology section is the most important part of cracking NEET UG, you should remember that 25% of the total marks are assigned to the Chemistry portion. The whole syllabus is based on Class 11 and 12 chapters of Chemistry, and not giving enough importance will create a massive drawback in the result.

There will be 45 questions to attempt, each carrying 4 marks for the right answer and -1 for the wrong. So, while answering, you need to stay extra careful.

  • Section-wise Number Division

The chemistry section of NEET UG is divided into two sections, A and B. Section A consists of 35 compulsory questions, and Section B consists of 15 questions where you have to answer a minimum of 10 questions.

Question Division of Chemistry Portion in NEET UG

Unlike the Physics and Biology portion of NEET UG, deriving a NEET UG Chemistry question pattern from past years’ question papers for Chemistry is a little bit tricky. The subject has a lot of variations to look for and the continuous evolution of the results coming out of different experiments on the subject makes it a little bit difficult. However, if you can divide the segments of the question pattern into some groups, preparing will be easier.

Patterns of previous years' papers can establish the fact that there will be three segments of the questions.

  1. NCERT Textbook based solutions and solved examples (15 to 20 questions)

  2. Questions from several previous years’ papers (15 to 20 questions)

  3. Fact-based questions (2 to 5 questions)

The table and the average number of questions discussed here are lined up by question papers from previous years. It’s not impossible to have a completely different question paper this year. However, it has never been the case that, the question pattern became completely different.

Books to Look for NEET UG Chemistry Preparation

As the subject involves many numbers and reactions with three portions of the subject, Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, following some of the best books through consistent revision are important.

Here are some of the books for effective preparation,

  • MTG 35 years Chapter wise Topic wise Solutions (Chemistry)

  • Objective Chemistry by Dr R K Gupta

  • Objective NCERT at your fingertips for Chemistry by MTG editorial board.

  • Physical Chemistry by O P Tandon

  • Organic Chemistry objective by Arihant
