Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic Acids - A Brief about the Chapter

The various categories of organic compounds that contain carbonyl groups are aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and their derivatives. A simple carbonyl carbon aldehyde, formaldehyde is bound to two hydrogen atoms. All other aldehydes contain carbonyl carbon bound to the hydrogen atom and alkyl group. The carbonyl carbon ketone is bound to two alkyl groups. Carboxylic acids are obtained by the oxidation of essential alcohols or aldehydes. They are also obtained by hydrolysis of nitriles, acid chlorides, esters, anhydrides, and amides.
