  • The exam consists of two compulsory papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of three hours duration, conducted on the same day.

  • Both papers include a mix of single-correct MCQs, multiple-correct MCQs, numerical answer type (NAT) questions, and matching-type questions.

  • The marking scheme varies each year, and negative marking may apply to certain question types, as specified in the instructions provided during the exam.

  • Each paper is divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, covering Class 11 and 12 concepts.

JEE Advanced Cut-off Marks

The JEE Advanced cut-off marks are released along with the exam results. Only candidates who meet the cut-off are eligible to participate in the JoSAA counselling process. The cut-off represents the minimum marks required to qualify for IIT admissions, and final seat allocation depends on both the cut-off and the rank secured in the exam.

Factors Affecting JEE Advanced Cut-off

  • Number of candidates eligible for JEE Advanced

  • Total number of candidates who appeared for the exam

  • Previous years’ cut-off trends

  • Availability of seats across IITs

  • Difficulty level of the exam

  • Overall performance of candidates

JEE Advanced Counselling Process

The counselling and seat allocation for JEE Advanced are conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), not by the exam-conducting IIT. All candidates who qualify JEE Advanced 2026 must register on the JoSAA portal to participate in the counselling process.

After registration, candidates can fill in their preferred IITs and courses. Seat allotment is done based on the JEE Advanced rank, candidate preferences, and seat availability. The JoSAA 2026 counselling registration will begin after the declaration of the JEE Advanced 2026 results.
