TNEA 2023 – A Comprehensive Roadmap!

Students who aspire for a career in engineering and are focusing on preparing for a multitude of entrance examinations can also consider TNEA 2023. Anna University conducts the Tamil Nadu engineering admissions or TNEA for short for admission into B.E and B.Tech courses in colleges across the state. The admission procedure is held based on the merit list prepared according to marks secured by a student in their Class 12 or equivalent examination. If you are planning on applying under TNEA, you should know about the vital components of this examination such as counseling procedure, documents required etc.


However, unlike other state universities of India, candidates need not sit for any entrance examination. Consequently, candidates need to keep track of the important dates related to the TNEA 2023 admission process.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 

The following TNEA eligibility criteria 2023 needs to be met to apply for admission under TNEA – 

  • Candidates applying for TNEA should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects in their Class 12.

  • Candidates belonging to general category need to secure an aggregate of 50% marks and above in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in their 10+2 or any other equivalent examination.

  • Members of the reserved category need to maintain an aggregate score of 40% in the above mentioned subjects.

  • Applicants from the below-mentioned classes need to secure a total of 45% in their 10+2 – 

  1. Backward class

  2. Most backward class(MBC)

  3. SC, ST, SCA

  4. Denotified class(DNC)


TNEA Rank List

Before the counselling procedure, candidates will be segregated into different groups based on their ranks. The TNEA Rank List 2023 of eligible applicants will be declared before each round of counselling starts.

The ranks will be awarded to candidates based on the following criteria –

  • Date of birth of candidates

  • Category to which a candidate belongs

  • Marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in 10+2 level examination


TNEA 2023 Counselling Procedure

The counselling procedure will take place online after the announcement of TNEA Rank List 2023.

  1. Registration Process

To participate in the TNEA 2023 counselling procedure, you need to complete the registration process and fill in the application form. The steps to complete the registration process has been listed below –

  • Go to the official website of TNEA and click on the link to access the application form.

  • Enter your name, contact information, Class 12 registration number, year of passing, date of birth.

  • After putting in the above information, you will receive an OTP on your registered phone number. 

  • Applicants will receive their User ID after completing the registration process.

You can log in with the User ID to access the application form for TNEA. In the application form, you have to provide you – 

  • Personal details

  • Contact details

  • Details regarding your academic qualification

  • Scholarship information (if any)

  • Income details of parents

A random number will be allotted to candidates who submit their application form for TNEA 2023 counselling. In case two candidates secure the same rank in the merit list, this random number will be used by the authorities to resolve the tie situation. 

  1. Fee Payment

Eligible applicants for TNEA 2023 who wish to take part in the counselling procedure need to make the fee payment fist. The fee can be paid via any online payment methods. You can also pay the fee offline by writing out a demand draft and submitting it at any TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFC).

Candidates who fail to pay the requisite fee will not be allowed to participate in the admission procedure. Accordingly, they must complete the payment procedure before the due date. 

  1. Entering and Locking Choices

You can enter your preferences of colleges and specialisations by logging in to the TNEA portal after completing the payment process. You need to close your options by the third day of commencement of counselling round. Once you lock in your choices of colleges and courses, you will not be able to make any modifications to it. Hence be diligent while entering your preferences. The system will automatically lock in the choices for those candidates who fail to do it by the due date.


After locking in their choices, a tentative list for TNEA Seat Allotment 2023 will be announced. Based on this list, candidates have to select their option which includes –

  • Accept the allotment

  • Confirm the allotment but opt for upward movement

  • Decline the allocation and opt for upward movement

  • Quit TNEA counselling

Based on the candidates’ choices, TNEA authorities will release a final seat allotment list. 

Candidates who have been chosen in TNEA Seat Allotment 2023 need to report to the concerned institution for submission of admission fees and document verification and submission.

You need to carry the following documents during the verification process –

  1. Mark sheet of Class 10 and 12th standard

  2. Admit card or hall ticket of Class 12 board examination

  3. Counselling call letter

  4. Passport size photographs

  5. Transfer certificate

  6. Nativity certificate 

  7. Candidates from reserved category need to provide permanent community certificate
