What is the JEE Main Normalisation Process?

Since JEE Main is a multi-session, computer-based test, candidates are often confused about the JEE Main 2023 normalisation process and the process of calculating scores to achieve rank. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the test, has released information related to JEE Main normalisation and score and rank calculations. Other important factors such as ranking listings and inter-ceremony guidelines were also announced. Below is the normalisation process for JEE Main 2023.

The normalisation process helps in creating an equal demarcation while assessing the difficulty level of this multiple-session exam. The score obtained is known as the percentile score. It is calculated up to seven decimal places to reduce ties and ranking ambiguity.

Furthermore, the percentile score of a candidate is determined after the implementation of the normalisation process on the marks of each subject, that is, Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. A candidate who scores the highest marks will be rewarded with a 100 percentile.

Tie-Breakers in JEE Main Normalisation Process

In situations when two or more candidates receive a similar percentile score, the merit list will be decided on these factors:

  • Candidates having higher percentile scores in Mathematics will be placed first.

  • The person with a higher score in Physics will be ranked higher in case the tie persists.

  • Candidates with a higher score in Chemistry will be chosen if marks in Mathematics and Physics remain the same.

  • It still exists; a person who is older will be given preference.

How to Assess Rank with the Available Percentile?

Students themselves can evaluate their rank from their JEE Main percentile by following simple steps. Essential details one needs to procure before attempting to determine the rank are mentioned below:

  1. Mention your NTA (National Testing Agency) Score.

  2. Find the total number of students who appeared for the exam.

  3. Calculate the total number of students who have secured marks similar to you or lower than you.

  4. Percentage of students who have secured more marks than you.

  5. The number of students who have secured higher marks than you.

The formula required to calculate rank from the percentile is:

((100 – P)/100)×N + 1)

Here,

NTA Score: P, Total number of students: N

Now that you have earned a clear idea about JEE Main Marks vs Percentile and have learned ways to estimate your rank, it is time to think over selecting the institutes based on your position. You can also refer to the previous year’s JEE scores and gauge which institute allows admission up to which score.

Assess Your Rank and Make Way to Your Dream College

JEE Main percentile vs marks is provided to help candidates estimate their probable ranks and fix their choices on preferred branches and institutes. Candidates who are willing to make their way into top engineering colleges have to prepare for each of the papers with the same precision and hard work. Since this scorecard takes into account the percentile of multiple session papers, make sure you set your focus on each subject and prepare them equally well.

All the best for your exams! Go and ace it.
