5. What is the age limit for IIT Aspirants?

For General and OBC candidates, there is a specified age limit to be eligible. Any student who has passed the 12th class or its equivalent exam in the year 2024, or appearing in 2024 can apply for the entrance exam. The applicant should have been born on or after 1st October 1998. SC, ST, and PwD candidates should have been born on or after 1st October 1993; five years of age relaxation is allowed to these categories.

6. How do I apply for the application form of JEE Advanced 2024?

27. During JEE (Main) 2024 registration, I declared my category as OBC-NCL. I do not have a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued on or after April 1, 2024. Can I upload an OBC-NCL certificate issued before April 1, 2024?

28. I am a member of the OBC-NCL candidate. My caste is listed only in the state list of OBCs of my state but not in the central list of OBCs, as listed on the NCBC website. Am I eligible for an OBC-NCL reservation in JEE (Advanced) 2024?

No, to take advantage of the reservation, it is mandatory for OBCs to be listed in the current updated central list of OBCs. OBCs present in the state list but not covered in the central list of OBCs (as per the list in www.ncbc.nic.in) are NOT eligible to claim the reservation.

29. What are the non-creamy layer (NCL) eligibility requirements for OBC-NCL reservation benefits?

The Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) criteria will be based on the Government of India's most recent notification.

30. I am a member of the OBC. My caste is listed in the NCBC website's central list of OBCs. However, according to the current Government of India notification, I do not belong to the Non-Creamy Layer. In JEE (Advanced) 2024, am I eligible for a reservation under the OBC category?

Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are not eligible to explore reservation benefits in centrally funded technical Institutes. Such candidates are treated as belonging to the general (GEN), i.e., unreserved category.

31. What does it mean to have Benchmark Disability?

A person with a benchmark disability is defined as having at least 40% of a specified disability, where the specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes a person with a disability where the specified disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authorities (RPwD act 2016).

32. What does SCRIBE / Amanuensis mean?

The scribe/amanuensis assists the candidate in reading the questions and keying in the answers according to the candidate's instructions. A scribe will not explain the problem or offer a solution.

33. What are the benchmark disabilities that are eligible for SCRIBE services?

According to an office memorandum from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, scribe (amanuensis) services are only available to PwD candidates who are visually impaired OR dyslexic (severe) OR have a disability in the upper limbs or have lost fingers/hands, preventing them from properly operating the CBT platform. Candidates who need the services of a scribe are required to request them during the registration process for JEE (Advanced) 2024.

34. Will using the services of SCRIBE / Amanuensis affect my JEE (Advanced) 2024 ranking or the subsequent seat allocation process?

No. However, if it is discovered at any point during the process that a candidate has used the services of a scribe but does not have the level of disability that requires the use of a scribe; in that case, the candidate will be removed from the evaluation, ranking, and admission process. If the candidate has already been accepted to an IIT, his or her admission will be revoked.

35. Are there any mock tests provided to get familiar with the JEE Advanced exam mode?

Yes, candidates are advised to take mock tests on the JEE Advanced official website to familiarise themself with the CBT mode.

36. Are PWD candidates eligible for compensatory time?

All PwD candidates are eligible for one hour of compensatory time, i.e., the end time will be 13:00 IST for JEE Advanced Paper 1 and 18:30 IST for  JEE Advanced Paper 2.

37. Will my JEE (Advanced) 2024 ranking and subsequent seat allocation process be affected if I use the compensatory time for PwD candidates but fail to produce a valid PwD certificate?

If a candidate uses the compensatory time but fails to produce a valid PwD certificate. In that case, their registration will be cancelled, and they will be removed from the entire ranking and admission process. The admission will be revoked if the candidate has already been accepted to one of the IITs.

38. I have separate documents for the Class XII pass certificate and the marks statement. Which document should I upload when registering for JEE (Advanced) 2024?

If you have a separate document for the Class XII pass certificate and the marks statement, in such a case, you need to upload only the Class XII marks statement document.

39. I took the Class XII examination in 2023 but did not receive a Class XII certificate. Will I be able to register for JEE (Advanced) 2024 without uploading my Class XII diploma?

Yes, candidates who took the Class XII examination in 2023 do not need to upload any Class XII examination documents when registering for JEE (Advanced) 2024.

40. I have appeared for the JEE (Main) B.Arch and/or B.Planning Paper(s). Is it possible for me to sit for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) without taking the JEE (Advanced) 2024?

No, only the candidates who qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2024 are eligible to appear for the AAT 2024.

41. In 2023, I was admitted into one of the National Institutes of Technology. Is JEE (Advanced) 2024 open to me?

No. If you have not completed the third step of the registration process by paying the registration fees, your registration is considered incomplete. And, If your registration is incomplete, your admit card for JEE (Advanced) 2024 examination may not be generated, and you may not be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2024.

49. I'm having trouble getting my admit card from the candidate portal. What am I supposed to do?

If candidates find issues while downloading the admit card, they should immediately contact the Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2024 of the nearest Zonal Coordinating IIT.

50. I am a member of the defence service (or a former defence service personnel). Is it possible for my child to sit in the DS category?

Not all defence service personnel’s children are eligible for DS category seats.  Children of defence and paramilitary personnel killed, disabled, or missing in wars, CI, or peacetime operations are eligible for DS category seats. A certificate following the format provided in Annexure II: Form DS in the Information Brochure as per Ministry of Defence, GoI guidelines issued by respective Armed Forces personnel record offices must be eligible for belonging to the DS category.

35. In JEE (Advanced) 2024, is it mandatory to write Paper 1 and Paper 2?

Yes, it is mandatory to attempt both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

52. Out of 2 JEE Advanced papers, I was absent in one of the papers. Will the conducting exam authorities declare my result?

No, there will be no preparation or announcement of your result. Both papers must be taken.

53. Do I have to select my QUESTION paper language when registering for JEE (Advanced) 2024?

When registering for JEE (Advanced) 2024, there is no need to specify the language of the question paper. At the start of the JEE (Advanced) 2024 Computer Based Test (CBT), candidates will be able to select their preferred language (English or Hindi) as the default language for viewing questions.

54. Can I change the language of the questions during the CBT for JEE (Advanced) 2024 (from English to Hindi and vice versa)?


Questions will be displayed on the screen in the candidate's default language (English or Hindi). Furthermore, at any time during the examination, the candidate can switch/toggle between English and Hindi as the viewing language for any question.  During the examination, the candidate will also have the option of changing the default QUESTION viewing language.

55. Will I be given rough sheets for my calculations during the JEE (Advanced) 2024 Computer Based Test (CBT)?


Yes. At the start of each JEE (Advanced) 2024 paper, you will be given a "Scribble Pad" (containing blank sheets for rough work). You can perform all your calculations in this "Scribble Pad." You just need to bring your pen/pencil to the examination hall.

56. Will I be given a printout/hard copy of the QUESTION papers and my responses to the questions in Papers 1 and 2 after completing them?

No, you will not get a printout/ hard copy of the question papers and response sheet after completing the paper.

57. How do I obtain a copy of the question papers and my responses to the questions in Papers 1 and 2?

All candidates who took both Paper 1 and Paper 2 can download their responses and the questions from each paper from the candidate portal link, which will be available on the JEE (Advanced) 2024 website after the examination.

58. If two candidates get the same aggregate JEE (Advanced) 2024 marks.  Will both candidates be ranked the same?


If two or more candidates have the same aggregate score, the following tie-break policy will be used to determine rank.


Step 1: Candidates with higher positive scores will receive a higher ranking. If the tie-breaking criterion in Step 1 does not succeed in breaking the tie, the following criterion in Step 2 will be used.


Step 2: The candidate with the highest Mathematics score will be higher. If this does not break the tie, the candidate with the higher Physics score will be given a higher rank. Candidates will be assigned the same rank if there is still a tie after this.

59. I am a JEE (Advanced) 2024 qualifier. Is it necessary for me to register with the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2024 and fill out my course preferences to be considered for IIT admission?

To be eligible for admission to IITs, all JEE (Advanced) 2024 qualified candidates must register with the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2024 and fill out all possible course choices in order of preference.

75. Is there a separate merit list for AAT?

No, architectures will just have to qualify AAT. The seat allocation shall be done on the basis of AIR that you obtain in your exam.
