1. दोनों गौरैयों को पिताजी जब घर से बाहर निकालने की कोशिश कर रहे थे तो माँ क्यों मदद नहीं कर रही थी? बस, वह हँसती क्यों जा रही थी?

उत्तर: माँ पिताजी का मज़ाक उड़ा रही थी क्योंकि पिताजी कभी ताली बजाकर तो कभी श-शू करके गौरैयों को उड़ा रहे थे। गौरैया घोंसले से सिर निकाल कर झाँकती चीं-चीं करती फिर घोसले में वापस चली जाती। यह देखकर माँ हँसने लगती है। माँ ये नहीं चाहती थी कि गोरैया घर से बाहर जाये क्योंकि माँ को पता था कि उन्होंने अपने अंडे दे दिए होंगे और वे अपने बच्चों को छोड़कर नहीं जा सकती।

2. देखो जी, चिड़ियों को मत निकालो। माँ ने पिताजी से गंभीरता से यह क्यों कहा?

उत्तर: माँ ने ऐसा इसलिए कहा क्योंकि चिड़ियों ने अपना घोंसला बना लिया था तथा उसने अंडे भी दे दिए थे। यदि पिताजी चिड़िया को निकाल देते तो वे अपने बच्चों से बिछड़ जाते तथा ये बिछड़ने का दर्द केवल माँ ही जानती हैं।

3. "किसी को सचमुच बाहर निकालना हो तो उसका घर तोड़ देना चाहिए," पिताजी ने गुस्से में ऐसा क्यों कहा? क्या पिताजी के इस कथन से माँ सहमत थी? क्या तुम सहमत हो? अगर नहीं तो क्यों?

उत्तर: चिड़ियों के लगातार शोर मचाने व तिनके गिरने के कारण पिताजी ने यह कहा। पिताजी के इस कथन से माँ बिल्कुल भी सहमत नहीं थी और हम भी सहमत नहीं है क्योंकि क्या पता उसे अंडे हो जो कि घोसला हटाने से फुट जाए और नन्ही चिड़ियाँ मर जाये।

4. कमरे में फिर से शोर होने पर भी पिताजी अबकी बार गौरैया की तरफ़ देखकर मुसकुराते क्यों रहे?

उत्तर: जब पिताजी घोंसले को तोड़ रहे थे, तभी उसमें से चीं-चीं की आवाज़ आई तथा उसमें रखे अंड़ों में से बच्चे निकल आए थे, तभी पिताजी ने घोंसला वापस रख दिया क्योंकि पिताजी को बच्चों को देखकर दया आ गई। अब पिताजी नीचे उतर आए इसके बाद चिड़िया दाने लाकर अपने बच्चों को खिलाने लगी। यह देखकर पिताजी मुस्कुरा रहे थे क्योंकि अब उन्हें पता चल गया था कि बच्चे होने के थोड़े दिनों बाद वे बच्चों को लेकर अपने आप ही चली जाएँगी।

पशु-पक्षी और हम

5. इस कहानी के शुरू में कई पशु-पक्षियों की चर्चा की गई है। कहानी में वे ऐसे कुछ काम करते हैं जैसे मनुष्य करते हैं। उनको ढूँढ़कर तालिका पूरी करो:

(क) पक्षी – घर का पता लिखवाकर लाए हैं।

(ख) बूढ़ा चूहा –

(ग) बिल्ली –

(घ) चमगादड़ –

(ङ) चींटियाँ –

उत्तर: (क) पक्षी – घर का पता लिखवाकर लाए हैं।

(ख) बूढ़ा चूहा –अंगीठी के पीछे बैठता है शायद सर्दी लग रही है।

(ग) बिल्ली – फिर आऊँगी कह कर चली जाती है।

(घ) चमगादड़ – पंख फौज़ ही छावनी डाले हुए हैं।

(ङ) चींटियाँ – इनकी फौज़ ही छावनी डाले हुए है।

किससे-क्यों-कैसे

6. "पिताजी बोले, क्या मतलब? मैं कालीन बरबाद करवा लूँ?" ऊपर दिए गए वाक्य पर ध्यान दो और बताओ कि:

(क) पिताजी ने यह बात किससे कही?

(ख) उन्होंने यह बात क्यों कही?

(ग) गौरैयों के आने से कालीन कैसे बरबाद होता?

उत्तर: (क) पिताजी ने यह बात माँ से कही।

(ख) उन्होंने यह बात इसलिए कही क्योंकि चिड़ियाँ जो भी चीजें घोंसला बनाने के लिए लाती थी वे कालीन पर भी गिरते थे जिससे कालीन गन्दा हो जाता था।

(ग) गोरैया के आने से उनके घोंसले के तिनके कालीन पर गिरते तथा गोरैया की बीट भी गिरती इसलिए कालीन खराब हो जाता था।

सराय

7. "पिताजी कहते हैं कि यह घर सराय बना हुआ है।" ऊपर के वाक्य को पढ़ो और बताओ कि:

(क) सराय और घर में क्या अंतर होता है? आपस में इस पर चर्चा करो।

(ख) पिताजी को अपना घर सराय क्यों लगता है?

उत्तर: (क) सराय अर्थात किराये का घर। इसमे घर किसी और का और रहता कोई और है इसके बदले में वे घर के मालिक को किराया देते है जबकि घर में उसी का परिवार रहता है जिस व्यक्ति का वह घर होता है।

(ख) पिताजी को अपना घर सराय इसलिए लगता था क्योंकि उनके घर में तरह-तरह के पशु-पक्षी आकर रहने लगते थे जैसे गोरैया, चींटी, चूहा, बिल्ली आदि।

माँ की बात

8. नीचे माँ द्वारा कही गई कुछ बातें लिखी हुई हैं। उन्हें पढ़ो।

"अब तो ये नहीं उड़ेंगी। पहले इन्हें उड़ा देते, तो उड़ जातीं।"

"एक दरवाज़ा खुला छोड़ो, बाकी दरवाज़े बंद कर दो। तभी ये निकलेंगी।"

"देखो जी, चिड़ियों को मत निकालो। अब तो इन्होंने अंडे भी दे दिए होंगे। अब ये यहाँ से नहीं जाएँगी।"

अब बताओ कि:

(क) क्या माँ सचमुच चिड़ियों को घर से निकालना चाहती थीं?

(ख) माँ बार-बार क्यों कह रही थीं कि ये चिड़ियाँ नहीं जाएँगी?

उत्तर: (क) नहीं, माँ सचमुच चिड़ियों को घर से निकालना नहीं चाहती थीं क्योंकि उन्हें संदेह था कि चिड़ियों ने अंडे दे दिए होंगे। इस समय उन्हें निकालना ठीक नहीं है।

(ख) माँ को लग रहा था कि अब तक तो चिड़ियों ने घोंसले में अंडे भी दे दिए होंगे और अब अंडे छोड़कर चिड़िया नहीं जाएगीं।

(क) अब उनकी सहनशीलता चुक गई।

(क) राम की नोकरी लगने के बाद उसके घर में सुख के दिन आ गये।

(ख) उसका पूरा शरीर सूख गया था। खाने के बाद भी वह मोटा नहीं हुआ।

2. धुल – धूल

(क) गंगा जी मे स्नान करने से मैं अपने पापों के मैल से धुल गया।

(ख) आज तो बहुत ही धूल भारी आंधी चल रही है।

3. सुना – सूना

(क) सुना है आज प्रधनमंत्री जी देश को संबोधित करेंगे।

(ख) बेटे के घर से जाने के बाद घर में सूना-सा लग रहा हैं।

Bhishma Sahni was a Hindi writer, playwriter, and artist, especially known for his famous novel and television screenplay 'Tamas'. This novel by Bhishma Sahni was based on the partition of India.

After this, he joined the Quit India Movement of 1942 and due to this, he had to stay in jail for some time.
