  • The king and the queen always thought about the happiness of the people in their kingdom.

  • The royal couple believed that not only the people but also the birds, animals and trees should live in peace. The birds and animals also loved them.

  • The couple had three sons: Sanajaoba, Sanayaima and Sanatomba and after twelve years, a daughter was born. She was named Sanatombi. Everybody loved her very much as she was a lovely child and very good at heart.

  • After many years, when all the children grew up, the king said that the time had come to decide the future king. He announced that there will be a competition to decide who is most worthy of becoming the king.

  • A horse race was organised and whoever of the three sons would reach the banyan tree first would be declared the king. But all three of them reached there at the same time. As all three of them reached together, the king and the queen told them to do something else so that they could make their decision.

  • Sanjaoba pierced the tree with his spear and jumped his horse right through it. The second son, Sanayaima jumped over the tree and landed on the other side in a beautiful way. The youngest son, Sanatomba rode his horse towards the tree and then uprooted the entire tree. He carried the tree with pride and laid it on his parent’s feet.
