About NTA JEE Main 2022 Paper 1 and 2 Syllabus [Download PDF]

Joint Entrance Examination or JEE is a two-level national examination for admission in various streams of IIT and Engineering. JEE 2022 is conducted by the NTA, i.e., the National Testing Agency. The Dept of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, beginning in 2019, has entrusted NTA with the responsibility of conducting the JEE Mains 2022. The exam was supposed to begin on April 16, 2022, but the NTA has changed the dates. JEE Mains Session I will now be held from June 24th to June 29th, 2022. JEE Mains Session II will be held on the following dates: July 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th, 2022.


The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), or JEE (Main), consists of two papers. Students must appear for JEE Mains Paper I to get admission to UG Engineering Programs like (B.E/B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, commonly known as CFTIs, and Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. JEE Main is also an eligibility exam for JEE Advanced 2022, which is used to gain admission to IITs. Paper 2 is held for admission to the country's B. Arch and B. Planning programmes.


The JEE (Main) 2022 will be held in two sessions for admission to the academic year 2022 - 23.

JEE Main Syllabus by NTA

JEE Main has 3 different types of papers for various courses. Students have to choose the papers based on the course that they wanted to get into.

  • Paper 1 – For admission to B. Tech/B.E.

  • Paper 2A – For admission to B. Arch.

  • Paper 2B – For admission in B. Planning.

Syllabus for JEE Main Paper 2A and 2B

Section 2A:

Visualising different sides of 3-D objects. Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Numerical, visual and verbal). Awareness of places, buildings, persons and materials. Visualising 3-D objects from 2-D drawings. Texture related to build-environment and architecture.


Section 2B:

Creating 2-D and 3-D compositions using given firms and shapes. Transformation of forms in both 2-D and 3-D union, rotation, subtraction, development of surfaces and volumes. Generation of plan, elevations, and 3-D view of objects. Drawing and design of abstract or geometrical shapes and patterns in pencil. 3-D perception – Appreciation and understanding of scale and proportion of objects, building elements and forms, harmony, contrast and colour texture.


Sketching of activities and scenes from the memory of urban landscape (market, festival, public place, streets, recreational spaces, monuments, etc.) landscape (trees, jungles, rivers, plants, etc) and rural life.


JEE Main Paper 2A and 2B Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Examination: Online (Computer-based)

  • Duration of Examination: 3 hours

  • Subjects: Drawing (B. Arch.) or Planning (B. Plan.), General Aptitude and Mathematics

  • Maximum Number of Questions: 

B. Arch.: 2 Drawing questions + 50 Aptitude questions + 25 Maths questions = 77 questions

B. Plan.: 25 Planning questions + 25 Maths questions + 50 questions = 100 questions

  • Types of Questions:

Maths: 5 Numerical-based questions and 20 MCQs

Aptitude: 50 MCQs

B. Arch.: 2 Drawing questions
