IEO Olympiad Exam

English is the only language that you can speak all over the world and therefore, it is an extremely important language that anyone and everyone must know. It is not just a language but a medium that can change people’s life. It has been changing people’s lives. It doesn’t matter if you’re just beginning to learn or understand the language. 

What is most important is if you understand its importance which is the real game-changer of life. This is the reason why uncountable students are enrolling themselves in Olympiads, to be more specific, International English Olympiad, which is the full form of IEO. The International English Olympiad is like a mirror that allows you to reveal the true you and see where you stand and how you can improve. IEO is an English language and grammar examination that only runs for school students from class 1 to class 12. 

IEO exams are taken on two levels and have different dates of the examination. The level 1 examinations are held during October and November. The level 2 examinations are held during February and March.   

IEO exams are conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) in collaboration with the British Council annually across the world. SOF is a non-profitable educational organization based in New Delhi, India which basically promotes National Science Olympiad (NSO), National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), and international English Olympiad (IEO) along with ICSO & IGKO.

Here is the List of All the Exams that the Science Olympiad Foundation Conducts

  6 Olympiad tests are conducted by the SOF each year:

  1. The National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)

  2. The National Science Olympiad (NSO)

  3. The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)

  4. The International English Olympiad (IEO)

  5. The International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO)

  6. The International Company Secretaries Olympiad (ICSO)


Exam Pattern

The exam is conducted for only the school going students from class 1 to class 12. The exam is conducted on two levels. In the first level, Objective type of questions is asked. Different levels of questions are set for different classes. Classes 1 to 4 have to answer 35 multiple choice questions consisting of 40 marks whereas classes 5 to 12 have to answer 50 multiple choice questions consisting of 60 marks. Students will be given OMR sheets to mark their answers. In the second level, out of all the students who participated in the examination, only 500 students are shortlisted and get the chance to perform for the second level. Students who get more than 50 i.e., 30 or more out of 60 get the medal (gold, silver, and bronze).

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The interested Student should be enrolled in a school that is registered with SOF.

  2. The student should be in or between class 1 to class 12. 

  3. A student must submit the completely filled application form along with the due fees.


Exam Dates

The IEO exams will be held on three days 

Day 1: 10th of November, 2020.

Day 2: 26th of November, 2020.

Day 3: 8th of December, 2020. 

Centers for the examination of level 2 will be announced in the last week of January 2021

Admit card for the examination of level 2 will be made available by the first week of February 2021

Examination of level 2 will be conducted on 2nd or 3rd Sunday of February 2021


The Purpose of IEO

The only purpose behind the English Olympiad exams is to help students to improve their English spelling, grammar, and most importantly the learning process. With the guidance of IEO exams, students were exposed to a new level of learning and prepare them for a competitive experience. 1. What is the importance of the Olympiad Exams?

Olympiad examination is the foundation of a better learning process that prepares the students not only for the competitive world but for themselves. 2. How to Apply for Olympiad Exams?

All the schools that have registered with SOF Olympiad are provided with a prospectus that contains the registration form of all the exams that SOF conducts. The schools that are not registered with SOF Olympiad can also request for prospectus by sending an e-mail. The prospectus contains guidelines according to which the roll numbers of the students are generated by the coordinating teacher at the school.  The copy of the Students' Registration Sheet (SRS) along with their roll numbers are sent to the Foundation's office before the due date of submission of forms.

After the student and the applicant school gets registered, the foundation dispatches the question paper.   

3. What is the Best Way to Prepare for the IEO Exams?

There are a few steps that you can follow to prepare for any olympiad exam. 

  1. Understand your weaknesses: This is the most important step that we should always focus on and never ignore. Realize what you are good at along with your weaknesses. Learn about yourself and find out if you are better at reading or writing. Which is the area where you make the most mistakes and the area that you feel confident about? This step is crucial because you need to invest your energy wisely. 

  2. Once you have figured out about your strengths and weaknesses, work on them. Make use of the question bank and just practice and practice and practice. 

  3. Take your mock tests and compare your progress. You need to know if your efforts are being paid back.  

  4. Use creative ways to learn faster and remember longer.
