Everything You Need to Know about IEO Exam 2023-24

The International English Olympiad is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) for students in Classes 1 to 12. The SOF IEO is an English language test designed to test the proficiency of the students in the subject in terms of grammar, vocabulary and language skills. Students participating in the International English Olympiad get an assessment of their command over the language and at the same time allow them to know their position in their age groups from all over the world. They will get an opportunity to win medals and cash prizes. Students get to compete in the SOF IEO at various levels such as school, city, zonal as well as international levels. Students in classes 1 to 8 are allowed to appear for the SOF IEO exam in their schools themselves. Students from Classes 9 to 12 have the option to choose between appearing for the Olympiad exam in the school or at the City, Zonal or International levels. IEO Exam Registration

Students need to register themselves in their respective schools and also pay the registration fee. The exam dates for SOF IEO are announced well in advance on the official website. It is important to note that schools are required to complete the IEO exam registration process for the students from a particular school to be able to participate in the competition. Students who fail to register themselves will not be allowed to sit for the exam. It must be noted that students are allowed to take the exam only once per academic year. The SOF has not allied for individual exam registrations for the International English Olympiad and the registration process can be partaken and completed by the respective schools only.

IEO Exam Eligibility

The IEO eligibility for the Level 1 exams does not entail any specific criterion as all the students from Classes 1 through 12 are allowed to participate. Students need to know about the specific eligibility criteria for taking the exam at various other levels. There is also no minimum marks requirement and as such all students enrolled in Classes 1 to 12 both in India and abroad can participate. The Level 2 eligibility criteria for IEO is, however, slightly different as it is only open for students of Classes 3 to 12. Students who are appearing for the Class 10 Board exams in March 2023 or April 2023 are also eligible to take part in the Level 2 exam. Additionally, only the first 25 class and zone wise rank holders, top 5% of students who appeared for the Level 1 exam from each class, class toppers of each of the participating schools given at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam and score 50% or more, and in the case of section-wise registration the top rank holders is are eligible to participate for the Level 2 exams. IEO Exam Application Process

The IEO application process for participating in the exam is required to be completed by the participating schools. The students from the schools that have completed the application process will be able to take part in the IEO exam. The participating schools must complete their school validation process and get authorized by the SOF board for students to proceed further. Schools registered with the SOF are sent a prospectus containing the application forms which the students will need to obtain (from their respective schools). Schools that are not registered with SOF can send in a request for the same via email at info@sofworld.org or call at 0124-4951200. All the participating schools are given a deadline for completing their application process. Students who fail to submit their applications within this period will not be able to take part in the exams. Students interested in participating are required to submit the duly filled in application forms to their schools along with the registration fee, INR 125 (GST inclusive) per student in India, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh or USD 9 per international student. Schools are then required to send the application forms to the SOF ahead of the due date as ascertained.

IEO Exam Structure

The IEO exam structure(pattern) is such that it is conducted in two levels - Level 1 and Level 2. The Level 1 exam is open to all students who are studying in Classes 1 through 12. The Level 2 exam is available for students who are qualified to appear for the Level 1 exam. While all the students of Class 1 to 12 are eligible to participate in the IEO Level 1 exams, the Level 2 exams are only open for students from Classes 3 to 12. In addition, the IEO exam structure for the Level 2 exam includes only certain selected students based on Level 1, the details of which are mentioned in the eligibility criteria provided above.

The International English Olympiad results are made available in the online mode on the official website. Participants are required to visit the official website and enter their SOF roll number in the format 'School Code-Class-Roll No' format, solve the captcha question, provide the answer and click on view results. The results can also be downloaded and saved for future references. The SOF IEO Exam is conducted in the English language and is an online test.
