NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Hindi Chapter 9 'Swatantrata Ki Aur'

NCERT Class 4 Hindi Chapter 9 'Swatantrata ki aur' is a beautiful account of Gandhi's Dandi march from his Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. The lesson starts with a boy named Dhani and his parents who lived in a particular place, Sabarmati Ashram, where Gandhiji used to live in the days of his fight with British India for freedom. Everyone had some specific tasks to do in the ashram, and Dhani was assigned to take care of a goat named Binni. Dhani was curious to know about the meetings that were going on between Gandhiji and his followers and wanted to know all about it. He felt that he was small in age terms, so everyone thought of him as a kid and a fool to reveal everything of Gandhiji's plans.

One day Dhani with his goat went to his mother, who was cooking something in the kitchen and asked her whether Gandhiji was going somewhere. Her mother replied yes, indeed they are going somewhere near the sea. Dhani was still very curious and wanted to know where exactly they were going near the sea. He went to Binda, who was in charge of plants and asked him if he was going with Gandhiji. Binda replied he wasn't. Dhani's curiosity burst, and he asked, 'Who are going? Exactly where are they going? And what is happening?

Binda answered every question. He said that Gandhiji and some of his friends are going by walking to Dandi near the sea. They would go through hundreds of villages and cities, and it would be a long journey of months. After they reach there, they would make salt from seawater. On being asked why so, Binda explained that the Britishers were imposing heavy taxes on a basic commodity like salt, which was essential in every household. Indians were banned from making salt from the sea.

This march to Dandi would send a message to the British Empire and convey to the world that they were fighting for India's freedom and rights. Dhani was determined and convinced and approached Gandhiji the next morning to request that he want to join him. Gandhiji was impressed with the determination with a small kid but politely denied stating that it was very tiresome, and he needed to take care of the goat Binni.

Lastly, Dhani agreed and wished Gandhiji all the best. The beautiful account presents us with the determination of a young boy like Dhani and Britishers' atrocities in India.
