The 12th chapter of Class 4th Hindi NCERT textbook Sunita Ki Pahiya Kursi talks about Sunitha, a differently-abled child. The story goes through the experience of Sunita going on her first shopping alone. The story talks in detail about the perils of a differently-abled child who very badly wants to fit into society and thinks that she is no different from others.

Sunita is very excited in the morning when she wakes up as she’s happy about going shopping that day and that too alone for the first time. She wakes up and takes her feet with her hands and helps herself to get into the wheelchair. She gets ready fast and takes money from her mother to start her journey to the market. On the way, she meets so many people who smile at her even though they don’t know her. Sunita takes it to be their sympathy and is not very happy.

Upon reaching near the shop, she realizes that she has to climb the stairs and she can’t do it alone. A small boy named Amit helps her to climb the stairs. At the shop the shopkeeper is busy and carelessly puts the sugar packet on Sunita’s lap which turns her angry. The chapter ends with how Amit explains to her that everyone is different and we don’t have to act like everyone is like everybody else. He explains this with the help of how everybody mocks him saying he is short and calling him ‘chottu’.
