FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1 - From this story “Namak ka daroga”, what do you think of the character of Pandit Alopodin?

Ans - Pandit Alopodin is a rich and influential man and through this story, we can see two aspects of his character:

  • The first part does not show him in a good light, and he appears corrupt when he offers a bribe to Vanshidhar to allow him illegal smuggling of salt. He also uses dishonest ways to get himself out of the situation at the court, so it shows his cunning nature too.

  • The other aspect of his character deserves praise. It shows that he values truth and honesty even though he does not possess it. He is also shown as being sorry for how he treated an honest officer like Vanshidhar and did not feel any shame in going and asking Vanshidhar to forgive him. He requests Vanshidhar to accept the post of his estate’s manager, where it shows that he has a good heart.

Q2 - Why is salary compared to the full moon in this story?

Ans - An analogy is drawn between salary and full moon since both happen only once a month. The full moon appears once a month and then it diminishes in size and finally disappears. The same fate is met by the salary too.
