Sample Questions From JEE Main 2018- Maths Question Paper

Below are a Few sample questions from the JEE Main Mathematics Solved Question Paper 2018:

1. From 6 different pairs of jeans and 3 different shirts, 4 pairs of jeans and 1 shirt are to be selected and arranged in a row on a shelf so that the jeans are always in the middle. Find out the number of such arrangements. Your options are as below:-

(a) Less than 700

(b) Minimum 500 but less than 800

(c) At least 800 but less than 1000

(d) At least 1000 or more than 1000

Solution:

The total number of ways in which such arrangements are given by: (6 4) (3 1) 4

We get, 15* 3*24

= 1080

Therefore, the correct option is D

2. In a basket, there are 4 blue balls and 6 green balls. A ball is withdrawn randomly from the basket. On observing the colour of the ball along with two additional balls of the same colour, they are kept back in the basket. If now a ball is again withdrawn at random from the basket, then find out the probability of this drawn ball being blue. Choose the correct option given below:

(a) ⅕

(b) 3/10

(c) ¾

(d) ⅖

Solution:-

Let b1 and g1 be the event of withdrawing blue and green balls (i)th withdrawal, respectively.

Now, given that the basket contains 4 blue balls and 6 green balls, then

P = (b1) = 4/10 and P = (g1) = 6/10

As per the problem, we have

P (B2/B1) = 4/12 P ( G2/G1) = 6/12

Thus, the required probability = P(b1).P (b2/b1)+P {G1) .P (B2/G1)

Thus, we get

4/10* 6/12 +6/10*4/12

= 2/5

Hence, the correct option is D.

Thus, we can conclude with the importance of solving previous years’ questions for competitive examinations like JEE Main.
