उत्तर: लेखिका के व्यक्तित्व पर मुख्यतया दो लोगों का प्रभाव पड़ा, जिन्होंने उसके व्यक्तित्व को गहराई तक प्रभावित किया। ये दोनों लोग हैं-

1.पिता का प्रभाव : लेखिका के व्यक्तित्व पर उसके पिता का नकारात्मक एवं सकारात्मक दोनों रूपों में प्रभाव पड़ा। वे लेखिका की तुलना उसकी बहन सुशीला से करते थे जिससे लेखिका के मन में हीन भावना भर गई । इसके अलावा उन्होंने लेखिका को राजनैतिक परिस्थितियों से अवगत कराया तथा देश के प्रति जागरूक करते हुए सक्रिय भागीदारी निभाने के योग्य बनाया।

2.प्राध्यापिका शीला अग्रवाल का प्रभाव : लेखिका के व्यक्तित्व को उभारने में शीला अग्रवाल का महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान था। उन्होंने लेखिका की साहित्यिक समझ का दायरा बढ़ाया और अच्छी पुस्तकों को चुनकर पढ़ने में मदद की। इसके अलावा उन्होंने लेखिका में वह साहस एवं आत्मविश्वास भर दिया जिससे उसकी रगों में बहता खून लावे में बदल गया।

2. इस आत्मकथ्य में लेखिका के पिता ने रसोई को ‘भटियारखाना’ कहकर क्यों संबोधित किया है?

उत्तर: इस आत्मकथ्य में लेखिका के पिता ने रसोई को ‘भटियारखाना’ कहकर इसलिए संबोधित किया है क्योंकि उसके पिता का मानना था कि रसोई में काम करने से लड़कियाँ चूल्हे-चौके तक सीमित रह जाती हैं। उनकी नैसर्गिक प्रतिभा उसी चूल्हे में जलकर नष्ट हो जाती है अर्थात् वह पुष्पित-पल्लवित नहीं हो पाती हैं।

3. वह कौन-सी घटना थी जिसके बारे में सुनने पर लेखिको को ने अपनी आँखों पर विश्वास हो पाया और न अपने कानों पर?

उत्तर: लेखिका राजनैतिक कार्यक्रमों में बढ़-चढ़कर भाग ले रही थी। इस कारण लेखिका के कॉलेज की प्रिंसिपल ने उसके पिता के पास पत्र भेजा जिसमें अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही करने की बात लिखी थी। यह पढ़कर पिता जी गुस्से में आ गए। कॉलेज की प्रिंसिपल ने जब बताया कि मन्नू के एक इशारे पर लड़कियाँ बाहर आ जाती हैं और नारे लगाती हुई प्रदर्शन करने लगती हैं तो पिता जी ने कहा कि यह तो देश की माँग है। वे हर्ष से गदगद होकर जब यही बात लेखिका की माँ को बता रहे थे तो इस बात पर लेखिका को विश्वास नहीं हो पाया।

4. लेखिका की अपने पिता से वैचारिक टकराहट को अपने शब्दों में लिखिए।

उत्तर: लेखिका और उसके पिता के विचारों में कुछ समानता के साथ-साथ असमानता भी थी। लेखिका के पिता में विशिष्ट बनने और बनाने की चाह थी पर वे चाहते थे कि यह सब घर की चारदीवारी में रहकर हो, जो संभव नहीं था। वे नहीं चाहते थे कि लेखिका सड़कों पर लड़कों के साथ हाथ उठा-उठाकर नारे लगाए, जुलूस निकालकर हड़ताल करे। दूसरी ओर लेखिका को अपनी घर की चारदीवारी तक सीमित आज़ादी पसंद नहीं थी। यही दोनों के मध्य के टकराव का कारण था।

5.इस आत्मकथ्य के आधार पर स्वाधीनता आंदोलन के परिदृश्य का चित्रण करते हुए उसमें मन्नू जी की भूमिका को रेखांकित कीजिए।

उत्तर: स्वाधीनता आंदोलन के समय (सन् 1942 से 1947 तक) देश में देशप्रेम एवं देशभक्ति की भावना अपने चरम पर थी। आज़ादी पाने के लिए जगह-जगह हड़तालें, प्रदर्शन, जुलूस, प्रभात फेरियाँ निकाली जा रही थीं। इस आंदोलन के प्रभाव से मन्नू भी अछूती नहीं थी। वह सड़क के चौराहे पर हाथ उठा-उठाकर भाषण देतीं, हड़तालें करवाती तथा अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध विरोध प्रकट करने के लिए दुकानें बंद करवाती। इस तरह लेखिका इस आंदोलन में सक्रिय भागीदारी निभा रही थी। 

रचना और अभिव्यक्ति

6.लेखिका ने बचपन में अपने भाइयों के साथ गिल्ली डंडा तथा पतंग उड़ाने जैसे खेल भी खेले किंतु लड़की होने के कारण उनका दायरा घर की चारदीवारी तक सीमित था। क्या आज भी लड़कियों के लिए स्थितियाँ ऐसी ही हैं या बदल गई हैं, अपने परिवेश के आधार पर 

लिखिए।

उत्तर: लेखिका के बचपन में लड़के-लड़कियाँ साथ खेलते थे परंतु दोनों की सीमाएँ अलग-अलग थी। लड़कियों की आज़ादी घर की चारदीवारी तक ही सीमित थी पर लड़कों को घर के बाहर जाने की छूट थी । लेखिका के बचपन अर्थात् वर्ष 1930 के आसपास का समय और आज के समय में परिस्थितियाँ पूरी तरह बदल गई हैं। आज शहरी क्षेत्रों में लड़के-लड़कियों में भेद नहीं किया जाता है। वे पढ़ने-लिखने, खेलने-कूदने में लड़कों से पीछे नहीं हैं। उनका प्रदर्शन दिनों दिन निखर रहा है। कभी लड़कियों के लिए जो खेल निषिद्ध थे आज उनमें वे बहुत अच्छा प्रदर्शन कर रही हैं।

7.मनुष्य के जीवन में आस-पड़ोस का बहुत महत्त्व होता है, परंतु महानगरों में रहने वाले लोग प्रायः ‘पड़ोस कल्चर से वंचित रह जाते हैं। इस बारे में अपने विचार लिखिए।

उत्तर: मनुष्य के सामाजिक विकास में ‘पड़ोस कल्चर’ का विशेष योगदान होता है। यही पड़ोस कल्चर हमें उचित व्यवहार की सीख देता है जिससे हम सामाजिक मापदंड अपनाते हुए मर्यादित जीवन जीते हैं। यहीं से व्यक्ति में पारस्परिकता, सहयोग, सहानुभूति जैसे मूल्यों का पुष्पन-पल्लवन होता है। पड़ोस कल्चर के कारण अकेला व्यक्ति भी कभी अकेलेपन का शिकार नहीं हो पाता है। फ़्लैट कल्चर की संस्कृति के कारण लोग अपने फ्लैट तक ही सिमटकर रह गए हैं। वे पास-पड़ोस से विशेष अभिप्राय नहीं रखते हैं। लोगों में अत्मकेंद्रिता इस तरह बढ़ रही है कि उन्हें एक-दूसरे के सुख-दुख से कोई लेना-देना नहीं रहा है। इससे सामाजिक भावना एवं मानवीय मूल्यों को गहरा धक्का लग रहा है।

(क) लू उतारी- शैतानी करने की वजह से पिताजी ने मेरी अच्छी तरह से लू उतारी।

(ख) आग लगाना- कुछ रिश्तेदारों का काम घर में आग लगाने का होता है।

(ग) धू-धू करना- तुम्हारे इस तरह चिल्लाने से लोग धू -धू करेंगे।

(घ) आग बबूला- मेरी कक्षा में फेल हो जाने से पिताजी आग बबूला हो गए।

• His mother was not educated. She used to perform household responsibilities very well. Before coming to Ajmer city, the writer's father was a respected and rich person in Indore.
