About the Author

Yashpal was born in 1903 in Firozpur Cantonment, Punjab. His early education took place in Kangra. He did his B.A. from National College, Lahore. This is how he was introduced to Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev. After this, he joined the Indian independence movement. He also went to jail several times during the freedom movement. He died in 1976.

About the Class 10 Hindi Kshitij Chapter 12 Lucknawi Andaz

Yashpal takes a dig at the decadent feudal class, which is accustomed to an artificial lifestyle, oblivious to reality. Needless to say that such parasitic culture can be seen even in today's times.

In Chapter 12 'Lucknawi Andaz', the author has made such a Nawab a subject matter, displaying his ‘Nawabi’ in front of the author, smelling the slices of cucumber instead of eating it, and each slice of cucumber is thrown out from the window. By doing this and by burping, he pretends to be satisfied. With this behaviour, the author thinks that in this way a new story can also be written without thought and characters.

1. लेखक को नवाब साहब के किन हाव - भावों से महसूस हुआ की वें उनसे बातचीत करने के लिए तनिक भी उत्सुक नहीं है ?

उत्तर: गाड़ी के चलते ही जैसे ही लेखक ने हड़बड़ी में डिब्बे में प्रवेश किया, उन्हें दृष्टिगत हुआ की नवाब साहब की आँखों में उनके एकांत चिंतन में विघ्न के आशंका में ,असंतोष के भाव प्रकट हो गए है। इसके बाद भी नवाब साहब ने लेखक से वार्तालाप शुरू करने में रूचि नहीं दिखाई , जिससे की लेखक को नवाब साहब के मन में अपने लिए उदासीनता के भाव प्रतीत हुए।

2. नवाब साहब ने बहुत ही यत्न से खीरा काटा, नमक- मिर्च बुरका, अंततः सूंघकर ही खिड़की से बहार फेंक दिया। उन्होंने ऐसा क्यों किया होगा ? उनका ऐसा करना उनके कैसे स्वाभाव को इंगित करता है ?

उत्तर: नवाब साहब ने इतने यत्न से खीरा काट कर, नमक - मिर्च छिड़कने के बाद भी सूंघकर बाहर फेंक दिया क्योंकि उस परिदृश्य में उनका खीरा खाना उन्हें निहायत ही मंझोले दर्जे का लगा जो की उनके नवाबी आन को दाग लगा सकता था। उनका यह बर्ताव उनके सामजिक झूठे शान ,दम्भ एवं आडंबर,दिखावा एवं व्यावहारिक खोखलेपन को परिलक्षित करते है।

3. बिना विचार,घटना और पात्रों के भी कहानी लिखी जा सकती है। यशपाल के इस विचार से आप कहाँ तक सहमत हैं ?

उत्तर: यह कहानी नए दौर के ऐसे लेखकों की जिनकी रचनाओं में कई बार विचार एवं कथ्य की कमी दृष्टिगोचर होती है पर एक तीखा व्यंग्य है। जो यह दर्शाने का प्रयास करता है की एक कहानी के लिए जो आवश्यक तत्व होते है उनमे एक कथ्य , विचार एवं मजबूत पात्र सबसे अहम होता है !मैं यशपाल के विचार से पूर्णतया सहमत हूँ।

4. आप इस निबंध को और क्या नाम देना चाहेंगें ?

उत्तर: इस निबंध को एक अन्य नाम जो दिया जा सकता है वह " लखनवीं नवाब'' हो सकता है , क्योंकि इस पुरे कथानक में ही नवाब साहब अपने लखनवीं अंदाज़ में अपने नवाबी को संरक्षित एवं प्रदर्शित करने की कोशिश में दिखतें है।

5. नवाब साहब द्वारा खीरा खाने की तैयारी करने का एक चित्र प्रस्तुत किया गया है। इस पूरी प्रक्रिया को अपने शब्दों में व्यक्त कीजिये।

उत्तर: नवाब साहब ने खीरा साफ करके एक साफ़ तौलिये पर रखा था,उसके बाद उन्होंने लोटे से खीरे को बहार निकल कर धोया, उसे तौलिये से वापस पोंछ कर, चाक़ू से काटकर फांकें बनायीं फिर उस पर बहुत ही करीने से नमक - मिर्च बुरका , अंततः उसे अपनी नासिका छिद्रों के पास लेकर सूंघा और बाहर गिरा दिया।

1. निम्नलिखित वाक्यों में से क्रियापद छाँट कर क्रिया भेद भी लिखिए

क - एक सफेदपोश सज्जन बहुत ही सुविधा से पालथी मार कर बैठे थे।

ख - नवाब साहब ने संगति के लिए कोई उत्साह नहीं दिखाया।

ग - ठाली बैठे हुए कल्पना करते रहने की पुरानी आदत है।

घ -अकेले सफर का वक़्त काटने के लिए ही खीरे खरीदे होंगे।
