Solved Sample KCET Questions Answers

Q1: If p, q, rare three unit vectors such that p+ q+ r= 0, then find the value of p.q+ q.r+ p.r.

Solution: |p+ q+ r| = 0

Now, |p+ q+ r|2 = |a|2 + |b|2 + |c|2 + 2 |p.q+ q.r+ p.r| = 0

⇒ (1)2 + (1)2 + (1)2 + 2 | p.q+ q.r+ p.r| = 0

⇒ 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 |p.q+ q.r+ p.r| = 0

⇒ |p.q+ q.r+ p.r| = - 3/2

Q2: A substance of mass 49.53 g occupies 1.5 cm3 of volume. What will be its density in the correct significant figures?

Solution: Given data:

Mass = 49.53 g, Volume = 1.5 cm3

We know that density  = Mass/Volume

(49.53)/(1.5) = 33.02 g/cm3

Density in correct significant figures = Difference of the no. of significant digits in 49.53 and 1.5 = 4 - 2 = 2

So, the density of the substance in two significant figures =  3.3 g/cm3

Q3: If the empirical formula of a compound is CH2O and its molecular mass is 90, then what will be the molecular formula of the compound?

Answer: Given Molecular Mass = 90

Empirical Mass (CH2O) = 12 + 2 x 1 + 16 = 30

The Molecular formula = (CH2O)

Now, for finding ‘n’, we use the formula:

          n = (Molar Mass/Empirical Mass) = 90/30 = 3

So, the molecular formula is: (CH2O)3 = C3H6O3
