Details of the KCET Exam

KCET makes the candidate eligible for admission to full-time Engineering, Technology, BPharma, DPharma, Agriculture courses (Farm Science) and Veterinary courses in numerous educational institutions in Karnataka state.

The KCET exam is conducted once every year. The duration of the exam is 1 hour and 20 minutes. More than 200 affiliated colleges across the state of Karnataka grant admissions on the basis of KCET scores. 


There are 8 health science and 7 engineering courses provided by these institutions and universities. So, after passing the higher secondary board and by scoring a rank in the CET with the subjects or stream of your choice you may choose to pursue an undergraduate course.


Eligibility For KCET

Following two areas are considered mandatory to appear for the KCET:-

  1. The aspirant must have scored more than the passing percentage in the 12th board exam with English as one of the languages.

  2. The aspirant must have a 45% aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio- Technology / Biology / Electronics / Computer.


KCET Biology Question Paper 2015

  • Changes in the question paper pattern are conveyed by the board before hand, but mostly the pattern is the same every year.

  • The exam takes place in offline mode through pen and paper and OMR answer sheets are provided to each candidate.

  • CET exam consists of a total 4 Papers- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. You can choose PCM or PCB or PCMB as per your choice.

  • Each paper carries 60 marks which suggests the biology paper is additionally of 60 marks and therefore the time allotted is 1 hour and 20 minutes to end the paper.

  • 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer and there’s no negative marking scheme in the paper. No marks are awarded for an unanswered question.

  • The question papers are distributed in sets and there are only Objective type questions with 4 options to choose from.

  • There’s only one correct answer for each question out of the 4 alternatives.

  • The test can be attempted in either of the two languages- English or Kannada.

  • You may prepare for the KCET from your 11th and 12th standard syllabus set by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State. NCERT books can be referred for the same.

  • You will be provided with OMR sheets along with the question paper and you have to mark the correct answers by shading the circle corresponding to the correct answer.
