Overview of Hindi Core Question Paper for CBSE Class 12

Despite CBSE prioritising Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology, language based subjects like English and Hindi are extremely scoring. Bringing good marks in  Hindi core paper can boost the aggregate by a huge percentage. At the moment, Hindi is a compulsory subject till Std 8 in all the CBSE schools of the Hindi-speaking states. In Std 9 and 10, Hindi becomes an optional subject as CBSE demands for selecting a second language alongside English. Hindi, as an elective, is available in Std 11 and 12 and is referred to as Hindi core. Very few students opt for Hindi core if they are fearful of Maths or Computer Science. Other than that, for those who enjoy the subject, it is simply a very scoring paper in the Board exams since the portion is very easy and comprehensible. 1. What do each section of CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016) include?

The CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016) is divided into three sections with 14 questions in total. Section A is the Reading Comprehension comprising 2 comprehension passages of 10 marks each. Students have to read the passages and answer the questions following it like short question types and meaning of words. Section B is the Writing Section which consists of Essay writing, Letter Writing and Grammar, a total of 5 questions to answer. Section C is the Literature section containing 7 questions out of which 5 questions to be attempted.

2. How do we study for the Literature section of CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016)?

The Literature Section of CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016) comprises a Novel, Short stories/ Prose and Poetry. The Novel has to be read completely and it is compulsory to attempt at least one question of long answer type from this section. From Short stories and Poetry, students can leave out some chapters if needed yet the selection has to be done in accordance with the Previous Years’ Question papers of Hindi Core which can be downloaded for free from Vedantu’s official website in the PDF format.  

3. What resources should we look for while studying for CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016)?

Not many resources are necessary except for previous years’ question papers and sample papers available in Vedantu. The previous years’ question papers can be used to analyse the type of essay and letter topics and the Literature section. Because it is a very scoring paper, those students who have a good grip over the language and the texts can easily score high marks in the paper. Although more focus should be given to the writing section which is more subjective as compared to the rest of the paper.

4. How do we proceed with the Writing Section  given in CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016)?

In the Writing section, only one essay has to be attempted out of 4 topics given. Essay writing is a tricky part of the paper since marks can only be scored if the context, the grammar, the vocabulary and the structuring of the essay is up to the mark. Students who have a good flair of writing can score very well in this section. Same goes for Letter writing. Since the format of letter writing keeps changing, students should be aware of the current format being followed and write accordingly. The Grammar part is also very scoring since it is objective.

5. Are short notes necessary for CBSE Std 12 Hindi core paper (2016)?

Only for the Writing and the Literature section, short notes can be made if deemed necessary. The essays have to be practiced along with letter writing to analyse one’s areas of weakness. For Literature, short notes can be made for the novel and short stories to remember the sequence of events, characters and themes in a sequential order. For Poetry, answers on the themes of the poem, title, symbolism, characters, the poet  and critical appreciation and paraphrasing of stanzas can be made.
