Let F1 and F2 be the two fixed points in the x-y plane. These fixed points are referred to as the foci.
The distance of a point (say a) on the hyperbola from the focus F1 be r1
The distance of the same point ‘a’ from the focus F2 be r2
r2 - r1= a positive constant, (say k).
This difference between the distance remains the same for all the points on the Hyperbola.
Furthermore, the focus points F1 and F2 lie on the x-axis. So, the distance r2 - r1 can be termed as the distance between the x-intercepts of the Hyperbola.
