IIT Bhilai - Introduction

IIT Bhilai was founded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development in Chhattisgarh in the year 2016. The institute is currently located in the transit campus in the Government Engineering College (GEC) in Raipur, Chattisgarh. The institute aims to provide the students with top-class education by imparting them with technical skills and professional knowledge for taking on real-life challenges. IIT Bhilai provides research-oriented B-Tech programs in the following fields: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Electrical Engineering (EE). 


Cut Off for IIT Bhilai

IIT Bhilai offers a four-year program for the undergraduate level. The students can get admission to the colleges after qualifying for the JEE exam. This exam is followed by the JoSAA counselling. The cut off for the colleges associated with IIT Bhilai is declared by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority of India. After this, the allotment of the seats takes place depending on the course preference of the candidates.

The IIT Bhilai cut-offs for the general category in the previous year were as follows: Computer Science and Engineering: Opening Rank; 2826, Closing Rank: 5845. For Mechanical Engineering the opening rank was 8175 and the closing rank was 11419. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science had an opening rank of 3764 and the closing rank of 5738. Electrical Engineering had an opening rank of 5134 and the closing rank of 9330. The cut off rank for the OBC, SC, ST category differs from the general category.

IIT Bhilai Cut-Off

At the undergraduate level, a four-year program is offered by IIT Bhilai. The students can get into the college after qualifying the JEE examination. Once done, it is followed by JoSAA counselling. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority of India declares the cut off for all colleges. Following this, the seat allotment takes place based on candidates preferences of the course. Generally, cut-offs are announced in 7 rounds of counselling. However, in 2020, the cut-offs were announced only in 6 rounds because of COVID-19. Scholarships

Several scholarships are offered to the students at the undergraduate level itself. This encourages students to do well academically and attain excellence. Scholarship details for IIT Bhilai are as mentioned below:

 

Merit-Cum-Mean Scholarship:

  • In the OBC and UR categories, a maximum of 25% of students can get this scholarship.

  • Eligibility Criteria: Income of parents must be less than 5 lakhs for UR and less than 6 lakhs for OBC. To avail the benefit all throughout their course, the students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.0.

 

SC/ST Scholarship:

All the students belonging to SC/ST categories are eligible for this scholarship. The following allowances are provided to the students:

  • Free food and boarding.

  • Monthly allowance of Rs.250.

  • Maintaining a minimum CGPA of 7.0 and the income of parents must be less than 5 lakhs for students belonging to UR category and less than 6 lakhs for students belonging to OBC category.

 

Free Student Scholarship:

In undergraduate programs, the grant of free studentship can be availed by 10 percent of the students. However, to avail this scholarship, a minimum CGPA of 6 must be maintained. The parental income must be less than 5 lakhs for students belonging to the UR category and less than 6 lakhs for students belonging to the OBC category. For other economically backward students availing ⅔ rd of remission for the tuition, they are eligible to avail ⅓ rd reimbursement for tuition fee as well.

 

Placements

IIT Bhilai was established in 2016 following which the first batch of students for undergraduate has not passed yet. Currently, they provide the students with a training and placement program.
