The Total Century of Rohit Sharma

He was regarded as one of India's most gifted batters for the first half of his career while playing for the country. Those who had watched his career closely could not believe his failure to attain sustained success at the international level despite his immense potential. The Mumbai-based batter had excellent timing and was visually appealing. Rohit's international career began in 2007 when his fifty against South Africa in his first T20I appearance in the T20 World Cup caught everyone's attention. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, needed nearly four years to add his first hundred to his ever-growing collection of international centuries.

Early Days Before Rohit Sharma Number of Centuries

In June 2007, he made his One-Day International debut against Ireland, however, he did not bat. He only managed 8 runs off 9 deliveries the first time he did it, against South Africa, three days after his debut, before being bowled out by Jacques Kallis. A surprise call-up for Rohit in India's T20I team for the 2007 T20 World Cup came as a result of an injury to Yuvraj Singh. He showed his potential against South Africa with a fast-paced, unbeaten 52 that helped India reach a respectable total. Rohit was trusted by the selectors after his World Cup 2007 exploits, and he kept his ODI berth during the Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series in 2008, where his scorching cameos down the order underlined his excellent talent. However, a string of inconsistencies in which he squandered starts and failed to convert them into something meaningful hindered him from cementing a spot in the starting eleven. It took him 42 games to score his first century (against Zimbabwe), and only a few days later, he backed it up with another against Sri Lanka, which impressed many.

Many Misses Before Rohit All Centuries

While it appeared that Rohit may be able to break into the 2011 World Cup squad, he was unable to do so due to another slump in form in three ODI series in a row. Rohit chose not to budge as he maintained his grind, and the swashbuckling batsman had the Indian Premier League to thank for rediscovering his lost mojo and being able to demonstrate his amazing prowess to the rest of the globe. In a life-changing turn of events, MS Dhoni, the Indian team's skipper at the time, chose Rohit Sharma as an opener when India urgently needed one and their regulars were fading on the international stage. With Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma became one of the better opening duos in limited-overs cricket, proving his mettle with a fearless mentality. He took to the new-ball bowlers with ease, and his aggressive instincts bode well for the team, which had just landed an outstanding candidate to secure their white-ball game.  What he could do when he was on a roll was demonstrated against Australia in Bangalore, when he slammed a blitzkrieg 209 against an elite list of ODI double centurions, and little did anyone know that there would be more of these.

After missing out on a chance to debut for the whites in 2010, when he was inches away from playing Test cricket but was denied by fate due to a last-minute injury, Rohit finally got his chance in 2013 against the West Indies in what was Sachin Tendulkar's final international series. He made a fantastic start at Eden Gardens, a site that would see much more of Rohit exceptional, scoring 177 and helping the team to a large total. He followed it up with an unbeaten 111 in an encounter remembered by the Little Master's final walk, the great Tendulkar's farewell contest.

How Many Centuries Does Rohit Sharma Have?

Rohit accomplished the unthinkable against a hapless Sri Lanka in 2014, on his favorite Eden Gardens, as he marauded the Lankans to a record 173-ball 264, which remains the greatest individual score by any batsman in the format to this day. Rohit became a beast in the limited-overs format for India while he juggled in and out of the Test lineup. If there were any issues, they were related to his consistency, although he rarely seemed lost after the 2015 World Cup. Rohit Sharma Number Of Centuries:

The captaincy of Rohit Sharma is frequently discussed, but he is still underappreciated. Since taking over as captain of the Mumbai Indians in 2013, the same year he led the team to their first-ever IPL triumph, he has turned the team's fortunes around.

His demeanor exudes a certain level of serenity. Unlike the go-getter Virat Kohli or the fearsome Ricky Ponting, Rohit has an MS Dhoni-like serene demeanor and the uncanny ability to keep his nerves in high-pressure situations. Rohit is a keen observer of the game who is tactically clever and understands how to best utilize resources, as evidenced by the way he got the most out of his Mumbai Indians players. He has a flair for rallying the troops and forming a cohesive unit. At the same time, Rohit has positioned himself as a leader who allows others beneath him to express themselves without fear of reprisal. MI won their second IPL title in 2015, and under Rohit's captaincy, two of India's current stars – Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah - grew tremendously. In the years thereafter, players like Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav have flourished under his tutelage and earned a spot in the Indian team. Rohit Sharma is the only IPL captain with five titles, having led MI to three more victories in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Rohit has also led India to triumph in the Nidahas Trophy, with his conviction in Dinesh Karthik's ability to complete games serving as a shining example of his talent. In the same year, despite the absence of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, he led India to victory in the Asia Cup. His batting prowess is undeniable, but so is his leadership ability.
