Fastest Centuries in T20 Cricket

T20 cricket is the most exciting and fastest format of cricket, and this format has hugely altered the style of cricket. The original format of cricket, i.e., a test match, was played for five long days. Contrarily, a T20 game is played for just three hours. And so, cricket lovers have witnessed a huge shift in their interests.

T20 is a limited-over match that is played for a maximum of 20 overs where many players create their name in the list of fastest centuries T20I. Wales Cricket Board and England introduced T20 International cricket, and it is an Intl. Cricket match that two teams play. However, the teams should have got the status of T20I by the International Cricket Council, a governing body of the sport’s world. The very first T20I was played between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park in Auckland on the 17th of February 2005. 

Here, in this match, New Zealand was defeated by Australia by 44 runs. The Australian team was led by Ricky Ponting, and he was then the captain of the Australian team. He remained unbeaten on 98. In the T20 International cricket matches, both teams play only one innings each, and it remains confined to a maximum of twenty overs. 

Format of the T20I

The match format of T20 is a kind of limited-overs cricket where two teams play. Each player has only one innings. The chief feature of T20I is every team does bat for a max. of twenty overs or 120 legal balls. Again, the members of the batting team don’t arrive at the traditional dressing room, and they don’t even depart from it. They go and come from a bench only that comprises a row containing chairs, and the bench can be seen in the playing ground.

• Sudesh Wickramasekara – Sudesh Wickramasekara versus Turkey – The Czech Republic all-rounded cricketer Wickramasekara made the fastest century in T20 International off 35 balls, and so, he became successful in taking the team of Turkey by storm. He also remained unbeaten. Hence, he turned into the 1st Czech Republic cricketer who got a 3-figure mark. For making the fastest century in T20, he hit 11 fours and 8 fours. The Czech Republic batted first and made a score of 278 runs from 20 overs.

• Hazratullah Zazai – Hazratullah Zazai versus Ireland – Zazai is a 21-year-old cricketer from Afghanistan who made a niche for himself in the world of cricket by making a stellar performance of batting. He began his career against Ireland, and he opted to bat first against some skilled Ireland players. Amongst the players, some have already played big tournaments and against the topmost teams. When Usman Ghani and Zazai opened, they smacked everything irrespective of what came in their way and made 236 runs. Zazai had an impressive score of 162 from 62 balls, and this made him successful in scoring a century and making a mark as one of the players who made the fastest century in T20.

• Jean Pierre Kotze – Jean Pierre Kotze versus Botswana – Jean Pierre Kotze is a Namibian wicketkeeper who introduced himself to the T20I cricket world with his exciting and fastest century in T20 International Cricket history. Jean battled in the eleventh over and pounded his innings extremely well. He hit 16 boundaries, and amongst them, 9 sixes and 7 fours were there. Kotze took some time to settle down and go on by hitting a six when he was playing the 13th over. 

• Richard Levi – Richard Levi versus New Zealand – Richard Levi is the Proteas opener, and he made his century from 45 balls in the year 2012. His outstanding batting turned him into one of the batsmen who scored the fastest centuries in T20I. Levi could score 50 runs in just twenty-five balls, and the subsequent fifty came up in only twenty balls. This improved his strike rate significantly. Levi was unbeaten on an impressive score of 117, and he hit 18 boundaries that included thirteen sixes. The notable thing is it turned into a world record.

• Faf Du Plessis – Faf Du Plessis versus West Indies – Plessis continues to be one of the finest players who played for SA. He has played many dazzling innings, but perhaps this is the best from him that his fans can expect from him. His century helped South Africa to score a huge total. The most memorable turn came when Plessis hit 20 runs from Suleiman Benn, the left-arm spinner’s bowling. This comprised 1 six and 3 fours. Plessis scored 50 runs when he hit a six. He got dismissed after he made 117 runs.

• Chris Gayle was the player who scored the 1st century. He scored 117 runs in the year 2007 at the inaugural T20 of the ICC World.

• Australian cricketer Aaron Finch possesses a record of scoring the highest score, that is 172 runs in the T20 International cricket format.

• Rohit Sharma, S Wickramasekara, and David Miller are some players who have become successful, scoring the fastest centuries in Twenty20 International cricket matches from only 35 balls each.

• Colin Munro from New Zealand and Glenn Maxwell from Australia have scored three centuries each.

• Hazratullah Zazai of Afghanistan is considered the youngest player who is one of the players who have scored centuries in the Twenty20 International format.

• Only 3 players from India, namely, Rohit Sharma, K L Rahul, and Suresh Raina, scored a century in the format of T20I till now.
