1. Kunchikal Falls

Location - Shimoga District, Karnataka

Kunchikal Falls ranks first among the top 10 falls in India at a height of 455m or 1493ft. Situated in the Masthikatte village in Shimoga District, Karnatak, this waterfall is formed at the Varahi River. It is also considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India.

However, its water flow has been diminished considerably ever since the construction of the Mani Dam. The actual water flow is now visible only during the rainy season, between July to September.

2. Barehipani Falls

Height - 399m

Height - 1309ft

Location - Mayurbhanj District, Orissa

The Barehipani Falls is the second-highest waterfall in India and is situated in the Mayurbhanj district in Orissa. This two-tiered waterfall is situated 120km from the town of Jashipur and is also near to the Joranda Falls in Orissa. The Barehipani Falls is on the Budhabalanga river over the Meghasani mountain of the Eastern Ghats. 

This fall is a big tourist attraction - surrounded by picturesque mountains and lush green forests, it is often included in tour packages. The actual flow of the Barehipani Falls is felt during the rainy season and it remains a little dry the rest of the year.

3. Langshiang Falls

Height - 337m

Height - 1106ft

Location - West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya 

The Langshiang Falls is the third highest waterfall in India with a height of 337m or 1106ft. It is located in the West Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya but can be seen from the Mawpon village as well. 

The Langshiang Falls is created on the mighty Kynshi river, which forms a pool popularly known as the “Wei Spi”. It has beautiful and rugged cliffs and passes through a valley near the Langshiang area. The river then goes downstream to form a breathtaking waterfall called the “Langshiang Falls”.

4. Nohkalikai Falls

Height - 335m

Height - 1099ft

Location - East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya

Another breathtaking waterfall on our list from the state of Meghalaya is the Nohkalikai Falls. With a height of 335m of 1099ft, it is the 4th highest waterfall yet the tallest plunge waterfall of India. While it has a mighty force during the rainy season, it dries up a little during the winter season between December to February. The Nohkalikai Falls also form a beautiful green-colored water plunge pool in its base. 

This waterfall is visited by tourists from far and wide - they marvel at the beauty of the tall plunge waterfall along with its lush green surroundings and tall mountains.

5. Nohsngithiang Falls

Height - 315m

Height - 1033ft

Location - East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya

Popularly known as the “Seven Sisters waterfalls” or the “Mawsmai Falls’, the Nohsngithiang Falls is beautiful and is situated in the East Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya. The seven-segmented waterfall stands at a height of about 315m or 1033ft. The Seven Sisters’ Waterfall lunges from the top of the limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills and is visible mostly during the rainy season. It is very popular among tourists due to the picturesque views of the waterfall, high undulated cliffs, rocky mountains, lush and vibrant forest colors.

6. Dudhsagar Falls

Height - 310m

Height - 1020ft

Location - Goa

Dudhsagar Waterfalls is another famous and breathtaking waterfall in India. Having a height of 310m or 1020ft, it is situated in Goa, on the Mandovi River. The waterfall is situated about 60km away from Panaji and can be mostly viewed from the Belgaum-Vasco da Gama rail route. Dudhsagar along with being a very tall waterfall is also a wide one with a width of almost 30m or 100ft. 

Locally known as the Tambdi Surla, the main beauty of the waterfalls is apparent during the rainy season when it is fed by the rains. It becomes a mighty force of water, flowing down the Western Ghats to Panjim and finally meeting the Arabian Sea.

7. Kynrem Falls

Height - 305m

Height - 1001ft

Location - East Khasi Hill District, Meghalaya 

Another waterfall from the state of Meghalaya is the Kynrem Falls. Situated in the East Khasi Hill District, it is 7.5 miles or 12 km away from Cherrapunji. This waterfall is a three-tiered one and has an impressive height of 305m or 10001ft. It originated from the Thangkharang Park and its water flow is impressive mostly during the monsoon when it gets fed by the rain.

The Kynrem Falls passes through a motorable road that leads to Bangladesh. To continue transport, a small bridge has been constructed to allow people and vehicles to move across the falls. One can get an unobstructed view of the mighty Kynrem Falls from this bridge.

8. Meenmutty Falls

Height - 300m

Height - 980ft

Location - Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu

The Meenmutty Falls is located in the Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu and has a height of about 300m or 980ft. It is 45km away from Trivandrum in Thiruvananthapuram. However, there is no motorable road leading to the gorgeous falls - one has to trek for 2km to reach the waterfall. Its lush green surroundings with high cliffs make it worth the toil and is thus a popular trekking site.

9. Thalaiyar Falls 

Height - 297m

Height - 974ft

Location - Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu

The Thalaiyar Falls is also located in the Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu and has a height of about 297m or 974ft. After its fall, it flows as the Manjalar River, a tributary of the Vaigai River, flowing south of Tamil Nadu. 

The Thalaiyar Falls is sometimes visible from the Dum Dum Rock viewpoint on clear days. This viewpoint is located 3.6km away to the west on the Batlagundu Kodaikanal Ghat Road. It forms a picturesque view with its clear white water flowing down dark cliff rocks, surrounded by high mountains and lush greenery.

10. Barkana Falls 

Height - 259m

Height - 850ft

Location - Shimoga District, Karnataka 

The Barkana Falls is the tenth highest waterfall in India with a height of 259m or 850ft and is situated in the Shimoga district in Karnataka. It is situated near Agumbe and is formed by the Seetha River. However, it is only visible during the rainy season when its water force is fed by rain. 

It makes a very pretty sight during the rainy season - a thin line of waterfall surrounded by the Western Ghats and its thick green forests.
