Hint: Ozone consists of three oxygen atoms and an oxygen molecule has two oxygen atoms. The properties of ozone and oxygen molecules are entirely different. When the mixture of ozone and oxygen is passed through turpentine oil ozone gets absorbed.
Complete answer:
Ozone \[{{O}_{3}}\] is absorbed by turpentine oil. So, it is given that the mixture was reduced by 20mL.
Therefore, \[{{O}_{3}}\]=20mL and \[{{O}_{2}}\]=80mL (Out of 100mL, 20mL is ozone and 80mL is oxygen molecule)
We know that when heating ozone, it gets converted to an oxygen molecule.
\[2{{O}_{3}}\rightleftharpoons 3{{O}_{2}}\] So,
So, 2 mole of ozone-3mole of \[{{O}_{2}}\]
And 2mL of ozone-3mL of \[{{O}_{2}}\]
And 20mL of ozone – 30mL of \[{{O}_{2}}\]
Thus, we get that if there is 20mL of ozone and 30mL of oxygen molecule, the increase in the volume will be =30-20mL=10mL.
When 100mL of the mixture is heated, there will be 10mL or $\dfrac{20}{2}mL$ increase in the volume
Additional Information: Trioxygen or ozone is an allotrope of oxygen. It is highly poisonous when in large concentration. In the atmosphere, ozone is formed by the action of ultraviolet light. Ozone is less stable than oxygen. Ozone has a bent structure and has resonating structures too. Ozone is a powerful oxidant more than that of oxygen. Ozone can oxidise metals more easily than oxygen. It can oxidise nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide and cause chemiluminescence.
Note: Ozone is synthesised from oxygen. Decomposition of ozone to oxygen occurs when it is heated. Two moles of ozone gives three moles of oxygen.
