PRMO Previous Year Papers

The initial stage of the Mathematics Olympiad is the Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad. The Maths Olympiad is divided into 6 stages. The Mathematics Teachers' Association (MTA) organizes the PRMO, whereas the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) organizes the remaining rounds of the Mathematical Olympiad Program. Candidates must qualify in PRMO to be eligible for the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO). 

The HBCSE administers the Mathematical Olympiad Program on behalf of the National Board for Higher Mathematics to Indian students. Students that excel in this program will be entitled to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which is the program's final level. The various stages of this Olympiad are briefly mentioned below.

• Stage 1 as already stated is the PRMO.

• Stage 2 is the RMO. It is generally only conducted in a few locations around the region. The test will last three hours and will consist of six questions. The test is conducted in English or Hindi.

• Stage 3 is the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad that selects around 900 students from all across the country who are top performers in RMO.

• Stage 4 is the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp that will be attended by the best achievers (about 35) from INMO. Several exams will be administered to the candidates throughout their stay at the camp. Only the top 6 qualifying candidates will advance to the final round.

• Stage 5- Prior to leaving for the IMO, the selected squad goes through a rigorous training program at HBCSE for roughly 8-10 days.

• Stage 6- The top 6 performers will get the opportunity to represent India at IMO, i.e., the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Eligibility

All students of 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades are eligible to participate in the Pre Regional Mathematical Olympiad. The Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education selects the candidates qualifying in the PRMO examination to appear in the next level (RMO) of the International Mathematical Program. By following the PRMO previous year papers, aspirants can get a clear insight into the detailed exam pattern of the examination. For example, they can learn about the exam duration, the types of questions asked in the examination, the level of difficulty for most questions, and many other details when they go through the PRMO previous year papers.  

For the Olympiad, only Indian citizens are eligible to apply. The candidates must have been born on or before August 1, 2000. Students possessing OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) cards are eligible for all stages of the Mathematics Olympiad, except the ultimate stage of representing India in the final International Mathematical Olympiad, according to Madras High Court decisions.

Students in grades IX through XII are eligible to compete in the Mathematics Olympiad. Regional Coordinators, on the other hand, enable pupils in Class VIII with extraordinary mathematics ability to take the test. The Pre-RMO is the initial round of testing (Pre- Regional Mathematical Olympiad). Around 300 students from Class VIII through Class XI and 60 students from Class XII are chosen for the RMO (second round) test based on their performance. 

It is the students' responsibility to ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements for each level of the Mathematical Olympiad. If the candidate does not match the eligibility criteria at any point throughout the test, he or she will be excluded from the program.

The Mathematics syllabus spans from Class IX to Class XII, yet the questions on the test are quite challenging. Calculus and statistics are not included in the curriculum. Algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory are key topics.

Before beginning Olympiad preparation, students should be informed of the examination pattern. Students must fill out their responses on an OMR sheet and follow the directions given on the OMR sheet and the question paper. The Pre-Regional Mathematics Olympiad (PRMO) is a three-hour-long examination. The question paper will consist of 30 questions, with each question having a single-digit or two-digit response. The exam will be conducted in English and Hindi.

How to Apply for PRMO?

• Candidates can apply online or at any of the approved centres.

• All registered Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya, and other schools are eligible to apply.

• Individuals or groups of students can register by filling out an application form accessible at any of the registration centres mentioned on the PRMO test webpage.

In the application form, candidates must fill in information such as:

• Personal information, such as their names, date of birth, gender, address, phone number, email address, etc.

• Educational information, such as your class, school name, and address.

• Students should double-check all data after filling out the application form before submitting it. Students will get an acknowledgement note at the end of the procedure verifying their application form submission.

How to Check the PRMO Results?

• Go to the official website for PRMO and click on the PRMO result link.

• Fill in the appropriate fields with your Roll number and date of birth.

• The PRMO results will be displayed on the screen. Students can either download or print the results for future reference.

• Students can send their questions to the email address listed on the website if there are any discrepancies in the PRMO result.

• All applicants selected for the Regional Mathematics Olympiad will be listed on the merit list (RMO).
