Chapter 1: The Earth in our Solar System

The Earth is the only planet known to be inhabited by living things. It is the third planet from the sun and is home to a wide variety of life forms. The Earth is the biggest planet among all the four planets closest to the sun. The solar system is constituted with the Sun, the Stars, Planets like Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Neptune, Uranus, dwarf planets like Pluto, and millions of Asteroids, Comets, and Meteoroids.

Chapter 2: Globe: Latitudes and Longitudes

There are hypothetical horizontal and vertical lines running around the globe that are used to mark the location of any place. These are measured in degrees. You will learn how to write the location in terms of latitudes and longitudes. 

Chapter 3: Motions of the Earth

Rotation and revolution are the two motions of the earth. These motions are very important as they contribute to the change of seasons and the change of day and night. The rotation of the earth is the spinning of the earth on its axis. Rotation contributes to the change of day and night. The revolution of the earth is the motion of the earth in a circle around the sun. It causes a change in seasons and determines the climate of a place. 

Chapter 4: Maps

This is an important chapter. A map is a scaled and visual representation of an entire area on a flat surface. You will learn to mark several things on the maps in further classes. They are classified according to the derivation, content, and scale. It represents various things like topography, roads, physical features, population, climate, natural resources, and climatic activities. The three components of the map are direction, distance, and symbol. You must learn various symbols to mark certain things on the map. 

Chapter 5: Major Domains of the Earth

The four major domains of the Earth are the lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere. You will learn about the features of each layer. The lithosphere is the solid part of the earth that includes the ground, rocks, mountains, etc. The hydrosphere constitutes three-fourths of the earth’s surface. It includes the water bodies that cover the surface of the earth which includes oceans, rivers, seas, etc. 

The atmosphere is the part over us that includes the air around us. It protects us from the harmful rays of the sun. It forms a protective shield and is formed of very vital gases. The layer containing all the plants and animals is called the biosphere. 

Chapter 6: Major landforms of the Earth

The natural feature of the solid surface of the Earth is called the landform. Examples include plateaus, mountains, plains, etc. which are termed on the basis of their mode of transformation. The various natural phenomena lead to the formation and change of landscapes. There are again different types of mountains like fold mountains, block mountains, and volcanic mountains. You will learn about their characteristics and formations. 

Chapter 7: Our Country - India

India is a country with varied geographical features. It is home to a large population and also stretches over a large area.Geography varies from place to place. Location of mountains, rivers, oceans, forests, etc. governs the geography of a palace. The north part of India has a cold climate and the climate and lifestyle in those areas are based around the Himalayas that runs through the northern part of the country. 

Further down, the climate and landscape vary and so do other factors like activities, agriculture, etc. The climate and other factors in South India are governed by the oceans surrounding the region.
