IIT Palakkad - Introduction

Operating under the mentorship of IIT Madras, IIT Palakkad is one of the third generation IITs. This institute was established in 2015 and has come a long way since then. The campus is located in the Pudussery village of Kerala.

Along with providing quality education, the institute aims to develop life skills, provide co-curricular opportunities, and incorporate leadership skills in its students. IIT Palakkad has a campus spread in an area of 500 acres. Accommodation and other facilities are also provided for the students of this institute. Admission Process

Students are admitted to the B.Tech IIT Palakkad program based on their JEE Advanced ranks. This is followed by a counselling process managed and regulated by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA.

There are seven rounds of JoSAA counselling for seat allotment to the candidates. The students are allotted seats based on the college's cutoff and the students' preference of programs and colleges. The registration and choice filling of JoSAA usually begins from the third week of June. The students have to apply for the IIT Palakkad admission process in the online mode.


The students applying to any of the four B.Tech (civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science engineering) disciplines require to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • They should have scored more than 75% in class 12 board examinations.

  • They should have bagged a position in the top 20 percentile of their board.

  • They should qualify the cutoff as per the JoSAA counselling.

Students who wish to get into IIT Palakkad have to appear for and qualify JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
