Uttar Pradesh Airports

The state of Uttar Pradesh is a part of the Indian subcontinent. As India's most populous state and national subdivision, it has a population of about 200 million people. Formed on April 1, 1937, as the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh and renamed Uttar Pradesh in 1950, the state's abbreviation UP stands for “Uttar Pradesh”. Lucknow is the state capital, and Allahabad is the judicial capital. 

There are 32 total airports in UP, out of which 2 are international airports in UP. These are:

• Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow - Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is located near Amausi. After Indira Gandhi International Airport, it is the second busiest and largest airport in Central and Northern India. Air India, Air India Express, GoAir, IndiGo, Fly Dubai, Oman Air, Jet Airways, Saudia, and Vistara are among the airlines that fly into Lucknow Airport. Passengers arriving at and departing from the airport can take private automobiles, autos, car rentals, cabs, and other modes of transportation. The route, however, does not have any public transportation. The airport is divided into two terminals: Terminal 1 for international flights and Terminal 2 for local flights. There are both long and short-term parking options at the airport. Because of the scarcity of regularly operating airports, most tourists prefer to go to Uttar Pradesh via Lucknow and then continue by public or private conveyance. Sitapur, Kanpur, Unnao, Auraiya, Rai Bareilly, and Barabanki are some of the nearby cities. It is situated around 12 kilometres from the city centre. 

• Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi - Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport is located in Babarpur. Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo are among the airlines that fly from Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport. Private and public transportation, such as buses, cabs, and auto-rickshaws, connect the airport to the city.

The International and Domestic Airports are both located on the airport complex. The main airport is half a kilometre away from the cargo terminal. The cities connected to this airport are Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Ghazipur etc. It is situated around 19 kilometres from the city centre.

• Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Airport, Agra - The name of Agra airport is proposed to be Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Airport. It is a military and civilian airport that serves the city of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The air force station is one of the Indian Air Force's (IAF) largest airbases.

During World War II, the station was known as Royal Air Forces Station Agra, and it accommodated a variety of aviation units. After the war, it was closed and transferred to the Royal Indian Air Force. The Royal prefix was dropped afterwards, and the station was renamed. On 15 August 1947, Air Force Station Agra was founded and placed under the leadership of Wing Commander Shivdev Singh, the existing commander of the No. 12 Sqn. 

The airfield was under the control of the Western Air Command (WAC) at the time, according to the command system in place at the time. For the next two decades, the base was under the control of Theatre Command. It was handed to the Central Air Command (CAC) in July 1971 and is still there today.

It has seen C-47 Dakotas, C-119 Packets, HS 748 'Avros,' AN-12s, AN-32s, IL-76s, Canberras, IL-78 MKIs, and now the Airborne Early Warning and Control/AWACS over its sixty-year existence with the IAF.

With No 78 ‘Mid Air Refuelling Squadron' (MARS) Squadron flying the IL-78MKIs, the station now has the distinction of having the first inflight refuelling aircraft Squadron in IAF service.

• Prayagraj Airport, Allahabad (now Prayagraj) - It is a military airbase as well as a public airport that serves Allahabad. It serves domestic flights and is located in Bamrauli, 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) from Allahabad city. It is one of India's oldest airports. The Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India jointly operate the airport.

• Bareilly Airport, Bareilly - Bareilly Airport is a civil enclave of the Indian Air Force's Trishul Air Base in Izzatnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India, 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) north of Bareilly. On March 10, 2019, state civil aviation minister Nand Gopal Nandi and Union minister Santosh Gangwar jointly inaugurated Bareilly Airport in the civil enclave of Trishul Air Base.

During peak hours, the terminal building has a capacity of 150 passengers (75 arrivals and 75 departures). Its new apron, which measures 95 by 100 metres, can accommodate two ATR planes at a time and has a parking lot for 150 vehicles, according to IMG norms.

• Hindon Airport, Ghaziabad - Hindon or Hindan Airport is a civil enclave operated by the Airports Authority of India at Hindan Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force near Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. After Indira Gandhi International Airport, it is the Delhi NCR's second commercial airport. The airport was developed especially to handle flights that are part of the government's regional connection project, easing the pressure of regional flights at Delhi's main airport. As of 2019, the airport has two airlines providing regional flights.

• Gorakhpur Airport, Gorakhpur - The Airports Authority of India runs this airport as a civil enclave in the Indian Air Force's Gorakhpur Air Force Station. The airport is 5 miles from the city (8.0 km). The airport has a 0.71-acre area. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, inaugurated the Civil Terminal building in June 2017. In the next months, it will be expanded with the addition of a conveyor belt.

• Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Airport or Kanpur Airport, Kanpur - Kanpur airport serves the Kanpur metropolitan region as a domestic airport. It has cleared the door for easy access to significant tourist and historical destinations in the Kanpur area, such as Bithoor, Sankissa, Etawah Safari Park, Jhansi-Orchha, Kalinjar Fort, Kalpi, National Chambal Sanctuary, Bhitargaon, and Kannauj. In the years 2020–21, it will be India's fifth most profitable airport. The current terminal would not be able to cope with the huge demand for air travel into Kanpur due to the limited expansion choices available and constraints imposed by the Airports Authority of India. On the Kanpur Prayagraj National Highway, a new 6000-square-meter terminal is being built.
