NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is conducted in two stages: Stage-1 and Stage-2 where stage-1 is conducted by state and UTs individually for their states where stage-2 is conducted by NCERT on National level. Stage-1 for this year was conducted on 13th December in states Delhi, M.P., UP, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, Assam, Maharashtra, and UT Chandigarh. Rest of the states and UTs will have their States and UT’s stage exam on the assigned date.


Exam for Both the Stage is Conducted in Two Tests:

MAT (Mental Ability Test): Questions are generally based on topics which check the students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills.


SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test): Questions are asked from Mathematics, Science, Social Science from 9th and 10th curriculum.


Exam Pattern for both the stages remains the same. The question paper is MCQ based and for every question, you get 4 options.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Are Scholarships Reserved for the Reservation Category?

Ans: Yes, as per NCERT and GOI norms- For ST and SC candidates - 15% and 7.5%, respectively. For physically challenged students - 3% Only those candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks under these categories are eligible for the scholarship.

2. Till Which Class/Stage, will the Scholarship be Given?

Ans: Qualified students, studying Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Commerce, Vocational courses, are eligible to receive the scholarship up to PhD level as per UGC norms. The qualified students, studying professional courses in Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Management, and Law, are eligible to receive the scholarship up to Post Graduation level INR 2000 per month.

3. Are Marks Obtained in Stage-1 Included in Stage-2?

Ans: No, Marks obtained in Stage- 1 are only used to see if you are eligible for Stage- 2 or not. And marks obtained in Stage- 2 are responsible for your selection in the scholarship programme.
