FAQs on NCERT Book For Class 12 Chemistry Chapter 3

1. What is the ideal time to start preparing for Class 12 board exams?

Usually after a particular academic year is over, the mindset of a student is to take a long break and indulge in other activities that they like doing. This, unfortunately, is not the case if you are planning to achieve a high score in the Class 12 board exams since you will have to start immediately after your Class 11 exams are over. By doing so, you are not only saving yourself a lot of time but also the effort of revising everything you learned in the 11th standard because you already know it while starting your preparation, provided you start within a week or so after the Class 11 exams are over. Thus, within one week after giving your exam for Class 11, we recommend that you start preparing for the ever so important Class 12.

2. Will revision improve the students’ scores?

Class 12 board exams don't necessarily have difficult questions, but what makes them a little challenging is the size of the syllabus that the students are expected to prepare. With about 20 odd chapters in each of the subjects, with various little important details embedded within each of them, it is really difficult for the student to retain all that he has learned. Even if one is comfortable with a particular chapter, it is not guaranteed that he will be just as comfortable with it after six months, when he has learned a lot more topics and also a lot more concepts. That's where revision comes into play. With the regular revision, we make sure that we not only learn but retain what we are learning. This is important for every subject and there is no denying the fact that not taking revision seriously, or not allocating enough time for a vision, can seriously hamper your progress and eventually your score in the board exam.

3. Do students need to remember everything they learned in Class 11?

One of the first steps to ensure that you will get a good score in the Class 12 board exams, is by going through the concepts taught in Class 11. Just like in school, it is all about how well your hold over the fundamental concepts is. Class 11 introduces various new topics and theorems that have only been built upon in the 12th standard. It is safe to conclude that without a good understanding of the Class 11 syllabus, it is really difficult for the student to achieve success in Class 12 boards. Thus, we recommend you to not let go of the books of Class 11 after the exam for them is over. You will constantly find yourself needing these books when studying for the 12th standard board exam.

4. There are so many books to refer to,  how should students find the perfect one for them?

There are tons of books and study materials available both online and offline for nominal rates and sometimes even for free on platforms like vedantu.com. Initially, it can be intimidating for the student to choose one particular book from the lot and trust it fully to prepare him for the exam. While it is hard to deny that there are books that have a better structure and content within them when compared to others, It is also just as true that almost any famous book out there has all the required material for the student to do well in the exam. A usual piece of advice is that you should stick to the books recommended to you by your teachers or seniors who are guiding you in the process.

5. Are the scores of the Class 12 boards any important in a world where competitive exams hold such high weightage for admissions?

Like you already must have understood immediately after your 10th standard, competitive exams are really important before one gets admitted to any college in any discipline for his or her graduation. The JEE for Engineering students, NEET for Medical students, the list goes on which only proves the significance and importance of these exams. That being said, it is also very important that the student in no way takes the Class 12 board exams for granted and studies for them. For students who aren't aware of it already, most engineering colleges have a minimum cutoff that is set for the Class 12 board exams that one must surpass to even be considered eligible for admission. This cut-off is 50% for some state-level colleges, but can also be as high as 75% for some private engineering colleges. Hence, while preparing for the competitive exams, the students should not lose sight of the fact that the board exams are also very important and require a lot of attention and dedication.
