Hint: Agriculture is the process and science of raising livestock and cultivating plants. The main steps for agricultural practices in terms of cultivating plants include preparation of the soil, sowing, adding manure and fertilizers, irrigation and harvesting.

Complete step by step answer: The prime and the first step in growing a crop is the preparation of the soil. In this process, the soil gets loosen and turns the soil which allows roots to penetrate deep into the soil. The loosening of soil is important as it promotes the growth of several microbes, earthworms, etc., which enhances the nutrient and humus quality of the soil; this also increases the crop yield. This essential process of turning or tilling and loosening of soil is called ploughing and it is done using a plough, which is pulled by a pair of bulls, hoes and cultivators. Through this process, the nutrients present deep into the soil come up to the top.
The preparation of the soil also involve other methods such as;
i. Leveling: To make sure that heavy winds or rain do not wash away the topmost soil which is nutrient-rich this process is employed. An implement called leveller is used.
ii. Manuring: This process is essential as it increases the soil fertility and thus, the crop yield.

Additional information: There are several more processes involved while growing a crop. All of these processes when combined make the soil most suitable for plant growth and better production yield. The other processes mentioned above make the soil enriched in nutrients, minerals, and better suited for crop growth. Weeding and threshing are the other two essential processes needed for proper production of the cultivar.

Note: Agriculture is the art and science of growing crops. It was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities. The history of agriculture began thousands of years ago.
