Lyophobic colloids-
- These are the liquid hating colloids and thus, they are very difficult to prepare. The lyophobic solutions are irreversible in nature as they are very less stable and addition of any amount of electrolyte can result in precipitation which cannot generate the original state of the same. Metal sulphide solutions are the examples of lyophobic solutions.
- The stability of lyophobic colloids is due to the charge on the particles it has. The charge exists due to the forces of attraction it has while the colloid is formed.

Lyophilic colloids: These are exactly opposite to the properties of lyophobic colloids i.e. they are liquid loving colloids and are stable. The stability of lyophilic colloids is also due to the presence of the charges on the particles.

Note: Do note that the colloids have a tyndall effect present within them but, here this effect is not responsible for the stability of lyophobic and lyophilic colloids.
