It is a protected area for the endangered gharial, the red-crowned roof turtle and the endangered river Ganges dolphin. Flora-
The sanctuary includes plants like Khair, palash, Butea, churel, ber and grassy patches on the either sides of the Chambal River.

Fauna-
Other than the endangered species, the other threatened species like mugger crocodile, otter, hyena, wolf, monitor lizard etc. various species of mammal like langaur, jackal, fox etc are also found here. The protected area is also a reserve of migratory birds from Siberia. Vulnerable species like Indian Skimmer, sarus crane are also protected here.
