In the form of disease-causing bacteria and viruses waterborne pathogens produced from human and animal waste, which are a main cause of disease developed from infected drinking water. Diseases spread by unsafe water include cholera, giardia, and typhoid.
The diseases that are caused due to water pollution are amoebiasis and cholera. Amoebiasis occurs by Entamoeba histolytica. It is caused when the faecal matter polluted water is ingested. It causes abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fever etc. Cholera is caused by the bacterium, Vibrio cholera. The symptoms include heavily watery diarrhoea, nausea, cramps and vomiting. The water lost is compensated by giving the ORS (oral rehydration solutions).
