Complete answer:
On the basis of cause there are mainly three types of enteritis.
1. Gastroenteritis is the most common type of enteritis. This is usually the result of eating or drinking contaminated food or liquids.
2. Inflammatory enteritis can be "primary" or "secondary". The primary version is caused by a disease that directly causes inflammation. Crohn's disease is one example. Secondary inflammatory enteritis is the result of treatment for other diseases
3. Ischemic enteritis results from decreased blood flow to the small intestine.
Treatment of enteritis-
1. Medicines can be given to fight infections caused by bacteria or parasites. You may need medication to slow or stop diarrhoea or vomiting. People with weakened immune systems often need antibacterial drugs.
2. Limit or avoid foods and liquids high in sugar, fat, and fibre to help relieve diarrhoea. Avoiding lactose may help. Lactose is a sugar found in dairy products.
3. In most cases of mild viral enteritis, only home treatment is required. The main remedy is to drink plenty of fluids and replenish electrolytes to prevent dehydration. The best fluid choices are sports drink, broth, or hydration solution. Avoid caffeinated drinks. A good strategy is to drink small amounts or often ice cubes. This is especially helpful when you are sick. For adults, over-the-counter laxatives may help. But kids can't use it.
4. If you have radiation enteritis, you may need to switch to radiation therapy. You may need to stop irradiation completely. In some cases, surgery may be required to cut the damaged part of the intestine.
Note:
Additional precaution: Be wary of medications such as NSAIDs, aspirin, and oral steroids. Avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol. The main complication of infectious enteritis is dehydration. Drinking alcohol right after the onset of symptoms can help prevent dehydration.
Additional complications can occur with other forms of enteritis (inflammatory and ischemic colitis). These include tissue death, intestinal obstruction and intestinal perforation, and holes in the intestinal wall. Timely treatment of this type of colitis can help reduce the risk of complications.Enteritis may lead to gastritis and colitis.
