Hint :Here, we will study the working of an electric bell with the help of a diagram. But firstly, we shall understand about the electric bell and the concept used behind the construction and working of the electric bell which will help us in approaching our answer and how the diagram shall help us in explaining its working.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
When a push button fitted in a battery has been pressed, the current starts flowing through the contact points due to an electromagnet fitted in the bell. The U shaped electromagnet is magnetized and hence it attracts the armature towards itself. The hammer which is fitted with a strip gives a strike on the gong which results in the production of sound. The moment this happens, contact of the attached spring with screw breaks, that is the circuit is broken. As a result, current stops flowing and the electromagnet becomes demagnetized. Due to this action of the spring, armature comes to its previous position, which is it comes in contact with the screw and hence the circuit is again completed. Each approach of the armature or strip causes the hammer to strike the gong. Thus, the same process is repeated many times and the bell goes on ringing.
Note :
Electric bell is generally used in homes as a repetitive buzzing or clanging sound would get produced when current is applied through the help of a switch. The horn on a vehicle such as cars also uses the same principle as that of an electric bell. Electric bell is also used as a fire alarm in government buildings and institutions.
