Assertion : Connective tissue inside the brain is essential for conduction of nerve impulse.
Reason : Connective tissue holds together the nerve cells of the brain.

Hint: The central nervous system (CNS) is surrounded by connective tissue membranes known as meninges and by cerebrospinal fluid. Connective tissue is a fibrous cell-sparse network, which helps to connect, support, bind, and separate neighboring tissues from each other. They are present all around the body. Example: bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, etc.

Complete answer:
In the central nervous system, the three outer membranes (meninges), which envelope the brain and spinal cord are made up of connective tissue. There are layers of meninges around the brain and spinal cord: dura mater, arachnoid, and pia mater.

The dura mater is the outer layer which is tough, white, fibrous connective tissue. The middle layer, arachnoid, is a thin layer with a lot of threadlike strands that attach it to the innermost layer. It resembles a cobweb appearance. The space under the arachnoid is filled with cerebrospinal fluid and contains blood vessels. The innermost layer, pia mater, is a thin, soft membrane, tightly bound to the surface of the brain and spinal cord and cannot be removed without damaging the surface.

The function of the connective tissue is to join one tissue to another in the organs. They provide support and protection and do not have any function in the conduction of nerve impulse. Nerve cells, also known as neurons, are the ones that help neurons to communicate with each other and other cells through nerve impulses. Neurons have sensory and motor functions. Interneurons connect neurons to other neurons within the same region of the brain or spinal cord. The nerve cells of the brain are held together by supporting cells called neuroglia cells.

Hence, the correct answer is option is D, “Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect”.

Note:Connective tissue is one of the four basic types of animal tissue, along with epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue. It is found in between other tissues everywhere in the body, including the nervous system. Connective tissue maintains the form of the body and its organs and provides cohesion and internal support. Apart from this, it also functions as an insulating tissue, stores reserve fuel, and transports substances in the body.
