Chapter-Wise Marks Weightage

According to the students’ survey, questions from organic chemistry were easier when compared to the previous year. Not even one question was asked from the d and f block in the 2018 chemistry question paper. Questions from Surface Chemistry had reasoning types and not even one definition type of questions like the previous year. All the questions were asked from the Class 12 CBSE syllabus of Chemistry.

The marks weightage chapter-wise along with the comparison with last year’s paper is given in the table below.

  • The question paper consisted of a total of 26 questions.

  • Questions number 1 to 5 are very short answer questions that carry 1 mark each.

  • Questions number 6 to 10 are short answer questions that carry 2 marks each.

  • Questions number 11 to 22 are again short answer questions that carry 3 marks each.

  • Question number 23 is a value-based question carrying 4 marks.

  • Questions number 24 to 26 are long answer questions that carry 5 marks each.

There was no overall choice in the paper. However, the paper was provided with an internal choice in one question of 2 marks weightage, one question of 3 marks weightage, and all the three questions of 5 marks weightage.

Section A

  • There were 5 questions each carrying 1 mark.

  • Total Marks: 5

Section B

  • There were 5 questions each carrying 2 marks.

  • Total Marks: 10

Section C

Difficulty Level

The difficulty level of the question paper was not higher than the question papers of the last 4 to 5 years. Some of the questions for the indirect application need higher-order thinking abilities.

Numerical problems were from NCERT book-based but were not given directly as mentioned in the book, unlike, it used to be till last year. Numerical problems on Electrochemistry, the optional part, were a bit confusing for average students.

Previous Year Question Paper Vs Current Question Paper

  • There were no questions asked on the chapter d and f block this year

  • Question from Organic chemistry was easier compared to last year

  • The value-based question was easier than formula-based questions this year

  • Surface chemistry had reason typed questions this year and not on definitions and examples like the previous year

  • The level of numerical based questions was the same as last year but it was a bit tricky
