Stanza 1: This stanza tells us about the early morning. The road is asleep in the early morning. Everything is quiet.

Stanza 2: This stanza tells us about the road waking up. The birds are calling softly in the morning. The sparrows say, “chirrup, chirrup, chirrup”. The crows say “caw, caw caw”. Wake up, wake up.

Stanza 3: In this stanza, the road meets someone else. It’s the newspaper boy who comes to the road. 

Stanza 4: In this stanza, the newspaper boy’s bicycle says,” Tring-a-ling, tring-a-ling”. The sparrows say “chirrup, chirrup, chirrup” and the crows go “caw, caw”. They ask the road to wake up.

Stanza 5: In this stanza of English Class 3 Chapter 6 The Story of the Road, the road meets with someone else. It’s the vegetable man! He says, “Peas, cauliflowers, cabbages”. “Potatoes, cucumbers, radishes, carrots”, says the vegetable man. The sparrows and crows ask the road to wake up, again.

Stanza 6: The road hears lots of tramp and chatter in this stanza. The road asks, “Who are these?”

Stanza 7: In this stanza, the road sees the children going to school. The school children talk, “chatter, chatter, chatter”. Their shoes go “tramp, tramp, tramp”. The vegetable man calls “Peas, carrots, cabbages.”

Stanza 8: This stanza talks about the crows and sparrows asking the road to wake up again. “Chirrup, chirrup, chirrup,” said the sparrows. The crows go “caw, caw, caw”. “wake up” says the crow.

Stanza 9: In this last stanza of ‘The Story of the Road’, we see the road telling the crow that it is awake. The road is annoyed with the crow asking it to wake up and it says,” Can’t you see, you foolish bird? I am wide awake.”
