The chapter “Games We Play” teaches us about different types of games that our elders must have played in their childhood. In this lesson, you'll discover the names of various local games such as hopscotch, seven tiles, and more.

These days children are hooked to more modern games such as video games, etc. They barely know about outdoor games that were played earlier. You may ask your parents about the different games that they played when they were young.

This lesson is in the dialogue format, which makes it even more interactive and interesting. Children were playing hopscotch in the lane outside their homes. Avantika and her sister Nandita were playing too. Nandita was having some difficulty with the game, and Avantika was explaining the rules to her.

Hopscotch is an outdoor game played outside the house. To play, you draw boxes on the ground and number them from one to eight. Then, you throw a marker (thippi) into the first box. Using one leg, you hop over the boxes, moving from one to the next. Both feet can only touch the ground on boxes marked four, five, seven, and eight.

You need to be careful of your feet not touching the line of the boxes. If you step on the lines, you are out of the game. After reaching the last box you need to turn around. While coming back you need to pick up the thippi and bring it back to the starting point. In this way, you need to throw the thippi in all the boxes and continue the game.

Their Chachi was watching the children play hopscotch. She got tempted to play with them. When she said that she wanted to play, the children laughed aloud. They thought that Chachi would not know how to play but she said that when she was young she played various games. She participated in various games such as Langdi-taang, hide and seek, seven tiles, kabaddi, and many more. Remarkably, her team excelled in kabaddi, being the best among ten villages.

She also said that her husband played marbles, seven tiles, wrestling, kabaddi, Gilli danda, and many other games throughout the day. He also flew kites. He used to be so engrossed in playing that sometimes he even forgot to have his meals.

After some time, it started raining and Chachi called the children home to play some indoor games. They wanted to play house-house but there was no doll. Chachi quickly made a doll with some cloth. Some children played carrom and ludo. The children were very happy to play indoor games.
