Hint: In this question it is said that when methyl iodide is reacted or we can also say heated with ammonia then what is the product is going to be obtained from both of the reactants. Whereas, we know that we both have reacted and a mixture is obtained and we have to classify this product in the solution.
Complete Step by Step Solution:
As for doing the solution of this question we have to write the whole reaction of the given reactants:
$C{H_3}I\xrightarrow[\Delta ]{{N{H_3}}}C{H_3}N{H_2}$
As per completing the first part of the reaction we get Methyl amine as a result.
For the whole process to be done we react Methyl amine in presence of Methyl iodide to get the solution:
$C{H_3}N{H_2}\xrightarrow{{C{H_3}I}}{(C{H_3})_2}NH$
As by performing this reaction we get Di methyl amine.
By making reaction of Dimethyl amine with Methyl iodide we get,
${(C{H_3})_2}NH\xrightarrow{{C{H_3}I}}{(C{H_3})_3}N$
As by doing this reaction we get, Tri methyl amine as in the product.
By performing full reaction in process we can see clarity of the reaction,
$C{H_3}I\xrightarrow[\Delta ]{{N{H_3}}}C{H_3}N{H_2}\xrightarrow{{C{H_3}I}}{(C{H_3})_2}NH\xrightarrow{{C{H_3}I}}{(C{H_3})_3}N$.
As a result from writing the whole process of the reaction we get that, when Methyl iodide is heated with ammonia we get, Methylamine, Dimethylamine and trimethylamine all the three are formed in this reaction.
Therefore, the correct answer is a mixture of all three amines.
Hence, the correct option is (D).
Note: We read this full topic in the preparation of amines whereas, there is many types of methods by which we can prepare amines. As we know that amine is a organic compound which having a nitrogen atom with a lone pair basically in all the methods of preparation amine is derived using ammonia at most specific times.
