Direct current is the current constituted by unidirectional flow of charge. Alternating current is the current constituted by bi-directional flow of charge. The current goes in cycle and keeps on changing the direction in case of alternating current.

Direct current (DC) is not used in houses or residential areas. DC current is used in industrial uses. This is because it is not very feasible and acceptable. Instead, Alternating Currents (AC) are used in Households, as they can be easily transmitted over long distances without much loss of energy and resources.

For the same value of the voltage, direct current is more lethal than alternating current since direct current has the tendency of not going through zero volts. On the other hand, the alternating current follows cycles and goes through the zero-value current frequently.

- Inductors of Direct current are more complicated to make than inductors of AC. The process may require commutators, electronic switches and brushes.
