Hint: Both Celsius and Kelvin are terms used to measure temperature. In India, the most common temperature scale used is Celsius. Temperature is the amount of heat present in the environment or any object.
Complete step by step answer:
Temperature is defined as “the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object”. Or, in simpler terms, it is defined as “the degree of hotness or coldness in a body”. It can be expressed by the following scales –
Celsius scale – It is also known as Centigrade scale. This scale is decided by fixing freezing and boiling point of water at 0 and 100 degree Celsius, respectively.
Kelvin scale – It is the SI unit of temperature. Kelvin is defined as “1/273 fraction of temperature indicating triple point of water”.
Celsius and Kelvin scales are related as – \[\text{T(K) = 273 + T( }\!\!{}^\circ\!\!\text{ C)}\]
Therefore,
\[\text{273 K = 273 + 0 }\!\!{}^\circ\!\!\text{ C}\] (T = 0)
Given, T = \[100\text{ }\!\!{}^\circ\!\!\text{ C}\]
\[\text{T(K) = 273 + 100 = 373 K}\]
Therefore, the answer is – option (b) – 373 K.
Additional Information: 0 Kelvin is known as ‘Absolute zero’ temperature. It is the lowest limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale.
Note: There are three main scales for measuring temperature – Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. Temperature in degree Celsius and degree Fahrenheit can be related as –
\[T({}^\circ C)=\dfrac{5}{9}(T({}^\circ F)-32)\]
From the above conversion we can say that Fahrenheit is the scale in which freezing and boiling point of water is 32 degrees and 212 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. However, there is no direct conversion between Kelvin and Fahrenheit scale.
