JEE Main tests its candidates on three main subjects - Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. The paper has two sections, an MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) section and a Numerical Value section. Each section covers all three subjects.

 

In the first section, there are 20 questions per subject (60 questions in total) and candidates can attempt all 60 questions. These questions are in the form of MCQs, with 1 correct answer out of 4 given options per question. A right answer in this section will gain you 4 marks, while a wrong answer will lead to the deduction of one mark. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully answer the questions in this section, since negative marking will affect your overall score.

 

In the second section, there are 10 questions per subject, bringing it to a total of 30 questions. Students must choose any 5 questions to answer per subject, making the total number of attempted questions 15. A correct answer is worth 4 marks. There is no negative marking in this section.
