IIT Palakkad was founded in 2015 and is one of India's third-generation IITs. The IIT Palakkad team is currently being mentored by the IIT Madras team. The college is currently operating from a temporary campus at the Ahalia Integrated Campus in Kozhippara, Palakkad, and a permanent campus in Kanjikode. The permanent campus of IIT Palakkad will be built on about 500 acres of land in Pudussery village, in the Palakkad district of Kerala.

IIT Palakkad - Fee Structure
Scholarships are awarded to the students of IIT Palakkad on a merit cum means basis. The institute also offers fee waivers for SC/ST students as per the government's norms. The various types of scholarships that IIT Palakkad provides include:
A merit cum means scholarship is awarded to students of the GE/BC-NCL category with annual family income less than Rs. 4.5 lakh. The scholarship is renewed every semester, and the student has to maintain a GPA of 5 to get exempted from paying the tuition fee and get an allowance of Rs. 1000 per month.
Students belonging to the SC/ST/PH category with annual income less than Rs. 4.5 lakh can avail of this scholarship which waives their tuition fee, hostel fee and mess fee. The students also receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 250.
